Flipgrid Updates- #40
What Is Flipgrid?
The last time I sent out anything about Flipgrid, it was almost a year ago. Since then, a lot has changed with this dynamic tool. So, let me give you some updates...
Basically, you create video recording prompts and have students record their findings.
Students do not have to create accounts. They are able to access Flipgrid through Google Classroom or through ClassLink by using a Flipgrid code or QR code.
Free Version Includes...
- Unlimited grids, student-to-student replies (recording replies), longer video lengths, CoPilots for collaboration
Google Classroom
You can share a Grid to your Google Classroom, or you can share a Topic to your Google Classroom.
Select A Grid Community Type
- School Email Domain- Connect students with a common Microsoft or Google school email domain. With School Email Domain, students need to enter a Flip Code and then verify with their school email using Microsoft or Google. In our case, students will use their Google account. If you're wanting a teacher to join this grid, you would need to add multiple domains since teachers are .net and students are .org in our district. After accessing the link in Google Classroom, and once students verify with their Google account, they are now able to access the topics in your grid.
- Student ID List- Create a student list with identifiers and QR codes (for students without emails). Only intended for non-EU participants. Non-EU participants are countries in the European Union. So, we're able to use this feature. With this setting you can upload a CSV file with the student info. A template is given for you to use, or you can manually add students. You can add up to 250 students per grid. Student identifiers must be 2+ characters (letters, numbers, symbols). If you leave the identifier blank, a random ID will be generated. After uploading the CSV file, or manually entering information, you're then able to print the QR codes. When students click on the assignment from Google Classroom, they choose the QR code for logging in. Students are now able to access your topics in your grid. I would laminate and store them for later use.
- PLCs and Public Grids- Share ideas with your network and the world (only for participants 16+ years old). I would not recommend using this Community grid type for our students.
See photo snippet below of what the community type looks like.
