SIGN UP FOR FALL CONFERENCES STARTING ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH AT 10:00 AM
Fall conferences are scheduled on Thursday, October 10th and Tuesday, October 15th from 3:40-7:40. We will also hold conference on Thursday, October 17th from 12:40-3:40. Conferences will be scheduled in twenty minute time blocks.
As in past years. Summit Elementary will use Family Access through Skyward to schedule Parent/Teacher Conferences. You may log in to Family Access and begin scheduling at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30th. Scheduling will close Tuesday, October 8th at 10:00 a.m.
You may click here for a link to the Family Access Log in Page located on the OASD website. Once you open Family Access click on the Teacher Conference Tab along the left hand side of the page.
If you have multiple children in the school, we recommend that you complete this process early for the best chance at grouping your conference times together. Please consider leaving a block of time in between conferences so that you can have a full 20 minute conference for each child.
We request that parents who live in separate households schedule just one conference with each child’s teacher. By attending the conference together, we are able to share the same information with both parents at the same time. If this will not be possible for your family, please contact Mr. Stuckey at 262-560-8301.
(Please note Mrs. Bakken, Mrs. Mueske, and Mrs. Koszycki will be holding some additional options for their 4K classes on September 17th since 4K students do not attend school that day. Those additional options will appear when you log in to Skyward).
If you do not have internet access, please contact the Summit Elementary office
at 262-560-8305 to schedule your conferences.
We look forward to meeting with you soon!
SAFETY AT SUMMIT
Safety is always a top priority at school, which is why we practice safety drills and review safety plans. We have started the year with many safety drills so that our children become aware of all of our safety plans. Some drills, like a fire drill, are very familiar. Some others, a medical alert for example, may not be. The following are the drills we practice throughout the school year.
- Fire drills are practiced monthly. Staff and students follow the evacuation route out of the classroom when the alarm sounds.
- Tornado drills are practiced at least twice a year, in the fall and spring. Staff and students go to locations in the building away from windows.
- Evacuation drills are practiced at least once a year. Staff and students go to a location away from school, typically the YMCA. We would need to evacuate if there was something going on inside the building (fire, water leak, no power, etc) that would not allow us to go back into the building for a considerable amount of time. Depending on the time of year, we would need a place inside to take the children quickly until we had further communication with parents. We also practice going to our Rally Points if that is determined to be the best option. Rally points are locations further away from the building than our locations for our fire drills but they are not as far away as our main evacuation site.
- Medical Alert drills are practiced at least twice during the year and at least quarterly before school. A team of school staff that have been trained in CPR and First Aid respond to a medical emergency. This drill is practiced only by staff. Students do not participate.
- Hold drills are practiced at least twice a year. A Hold would indicate a need for caution, but teaching and learning would continue in classrooms. Staff and students are asked to clear hallways and remain in classrooms. A hold would most commonly be used during a medical situation where we would need to get emergency personnel through our hallways without congestion or students observing the emergency.
- ALICE drills--Our staff receives yearly training in ALICE. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. The goal of ALICE training is to learn strategies that empower individuals to take action in the event of a school threat or an intruder in the building. ALICE training helps staff learn new proactive strategies for responding to crisis situations. “Lock the door and hide” might be an appropriate strategy in some situations. In other cases, teachers and students might take precautions to barricade the entrance of the classroom, or even choose to leave the building if that is the safest option.More information about ALICE, including Frequently Asked Questions, is on the District website under Family Resources.
The safety of all students, staff and visitors to our building is our highest priority. We have a responsibility to those in our care to have proactive, options-based safety strategies, and our hope is that by taking these steps to increase awareness and learn new safety skills, we will continue to keep all students as safe as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact Mr.Stuckey if you have any questions or concerns.
