It's Recorder Time!
Fourth Grade students will soon be starting their recorder unit for music class. Each student will need one recorder, which can be purchased through the school for $6. Students may also use a recorder they have at home as long as they bring it to school and have it approved by the music teacher. Students will receive their purchased recorders in February when we start the unit and they may keep their recorders at the end of the school year.
If you plan to purchase a recorder through the school, you can either pay through Core Commerce using this link or send a check to the Forest Glen office attached to the form sent home with your student. Recorder forms must be returned by Wednesday, January 23rd.
If you have any questions, please contact the music teacher, Miss Duhaime at nicoduha@hssdschools.org or (920) 662-7953.

School Board Connection with Mark Ashley
New Year, A Closer look into the HSSD School Board
As 2018 comes to a close, the Howard-Suamico School Board wants to thank you for your continued trust and support. As we prepare to bring in a new year, we want to make sure you are clear on the School Board’s role, our mission and ensure you have the visibility, aka transparency, you deserve.
School Board Role
The Board of Education acts as a whole, not as seven individuals, to ensure the success of every child through clear, concise direction to the superintendent as well as rigorous monitoring to ensure accountability. The board charges the superintendent to focus every staff member and all resources toward a single goal - student achievement. The superintendent receives direction from the board and authorizes the staff to implement practices, programs and activities that will provide the best education possible. This approach allows the Board to focus its time and energy on facilitating a successful school district.
Board Mission
The mission of the Howard-Suamico School District Board of Education is to enact policies and allocate resources to develop all students' full academic potential and to promote their social and emotional growth.
For more information about the School District and School Board, visit www.hssd.k12.wi.us. For additional information regarding this article, contact school board member Maria Lara at marilara@hssd.k12.wi.us. We wish you a Happy New Year!
