Need to Know
Message from the Headmaster
Long-time Selwyn House Elementary Head, Kathy Funamoto, announces her retirement: Kathy has decided that after 44 years as a teacher and administrator, it is time to step away and pursue other passions at the end of the current school year. Throughout this time, Kathy has been a caring, diligent, hard-working member of the community and she will be greatly missed. Her positive attitude, caring demeanour, and professionalism have helped many teachers develop and hone their teaching skills. At the same time, she has been a second mother to thousands of boys over the years helping them and their parents prepare for their secondary schooling.
Kathy has taught me many things over the 33 years that we have worked together, first as a colleague, and then as an administrator. In fact, the very first Selwyn House trip that I went on was a grade 7 overnight trip to Ottawa back in 1990. Kathy and I were two of the teachers responsible for the trip and since that time she has been a role model to me. I would like to express my sincerest thanks for all that she has done in her time at Selwyn House. Congratulations Kathy! Our entire community joins in celebrating your outstanding career. The senior leadership team has begun the search for her successor.
Attention! For safety reasons related to snow and ice, the alleyway and the door to the Macaulay basement on the west side of the Macaulay Building are off-limits for the rest of this week. Please use the main doors (on rue Stanton) for entry and exit, as well as hockey equipment drop-off. Thank you for your cooperation!
Message from Selwyn House Staff: Thank you to all the parents who helped make our Staff Appreciation Week such a wonderful experience! We are truly spoiled by the love we are receiving this week: coffee & snacks, lunch buffet, raffle gifts, and today’s spa treats and wellness activities. We also look forward to the casino and cocktails to come! Your thoughtfulness and generosity are so very much appreciated!

Class of 2023 hits the slopes: 58 of our Grade 11 students enjoyed a ski trip at Mont-Sainte-Anne from February 2-4. The group experienced ideal weather on the first day on the slopes and enjoyed a fun, relaxing pizza night with NHL, billiards, and games. On Friday, everyone had to improvise because the slopes were closed due to extreme climate conditions. This didn't break the SHS spirit! The students and staff enjoyed outdoor winter fun with frisbee, tobogganing and a night at a Sugar Shack! To quote one student, it was "the best day ever!" Luckily, the ski hill opened back up on Saturday to allow the boys to enjoy their last day with blue skies and fresh powder. Everyone had a great time, curveballs and all! Read more.
