ESS Update
Week ending 10-9-2020
Self Care for Elementary Students
Tip #1-allow your child to take the time to reflect on emotions that can help develop a self-loving attitude towards themselves
These simple four questions allow parents/guardians to have an open and healthy conversation with your child and to let you know about his/her feelings during the day:
- Top 3 things they loved about their day
- Who was kind to your child?
- Was your child kind to anyone?
- Did anything upset them?
REMINDER!
PE Update from Mr. Manning
"To Parents/Students,
Due to Covid restrictions P.E. class will be held outside or in the classrooms. As the colder weather approaches, please make sure your children are dressed appropriately. We will be going outside as often as we can. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me via email at kmanning@sheltonpublicschools.org

Breakfast and Lunch
Food pick up during distance learning Mondays as well as for students who are on full distance learning days will be at Shelton High School from 9 AM-11 AM.
Covid Quick Links-Updated 10/1/2020
Attendance
In person learners must be in their seats by 9:00 AM or are considered tardy. All online learners must complete the attendance task given by their teachers, call the school or email the office (dquinlan@sheltonpublicschools.org) by 1:50 each day they are distance learning or will be marked absent.
Any student marked with unexcused absences will receive a call at 2:30. If the office does not hear from you by 4:00, the absence will remain unexcused
Dismissal
1-Please make sure whatever adult is picking up has a photo ID and is on the list you have supplied to the main office for approved pick up. Only students who have opted out of bus transportation or have sent in a note will be dismissed as pick ups. Please email Mrs Quinlan (dquinlan@sheltonpublicschools.org), Mrs. Gallant (dgallant@sheltonpublicschools.org) and the student's teacher if you are changing the days dismissal and will be picking up. If we do not have a note, the student will be sent home on the bus. Phone call changes will not be accepted.
2-All pick ups will be in the back of the school. There is signage to which door your student will be coming out of. Kindergarten will come out of the library door, 1st and 2nd grades will come out of the middle door and 3rd and 4th grades will come out of the cafeteria door. All social distancing rules apply. Please stand behind the yellow lines at all times
3-When it is your turn, you will come to the yellow line, show the photo ID and give the name of the student you are picking up. The staff on duty will verify your ID and that you are on the list for pick up. They will then call for your student. Please be patient with procedure as it is new and many students are being picked up this year.
4-If you are picking up students in multiple grades, you must follow the same protocols at each door. Please start with your older student and work your way down to the younger student.
5-According to current CT state statutes, the playground is closed.
6-Please be mindful when driving in and out of the parking lot
In person learning changes
As you may know, the BOE agreed to Dr Smith’s recommendation 9/23 regarding the change in the K-4 instructional model. Beginning Tuesday October 13th, all K-4 students can come for in-person learning Tuesday-Friday each week while still maintaining the early dismissal schedule. Mondays will remain a full distance learning day for all students.
If you are changing your child from in person learning to full distance-please go to https://echalk-slate-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/private/districts/376/resources/7f4ccd4c-6948-4b02-96db-6ca5396a751d?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJSZKIBPXGFLSZTYQ&Expires=1912691179&response-cache-control=private%2C%20max-age%3D31536000&response-content-disposition=%3Bfilename%3D%22Opt%2520Into%2520Full%2520Distance%2520Learning%2520due%2520to%2520COVID-19.pdf%22&response-content-type=application%2Fpdf&Signature=dde771Xmziu1TP53ws8smsGynwY%3D and fill out the Opt Out of in person learning form and email it to me (jweber@sheltonpublicschools.org)
Lunch will remain in the classrooms
Dismissal procedures will remain the same
Specialists will continue going into the classrooms
Playground will stay closed, there will be no recess until we go full days
This schedule will be in place through the end of October, beginning of November
