Come early to Achievement Party and participate in the 4-H Olympics starting at 1:00 PM! The Junior Leaders will offer fun activities that will complement healthy lifestyles lessons and hand out PRIZES to participants!

COUNCIL NOMINATIONS
The Hamilton County's 4-H Councils mission is to help develop the youth of Hamilton County to become competent, confident, caring, contributing citizens of good character through a series of progressive learning experiences through youth development.
We are looking for 2 adults and 6 youth to run! The youth must be 13 years old by January 1st, 2020.
We will vote at our Achievement Party held on October 20, 2019. Please let us know by calling our office at 402-694-6174 if you would like to run!
The Council will meet approximately 6-8 times a year in Aurora, at the Courthouse.
The responsibilities of the 4-H Council is to:
1. Develop the Hamilton County 4-H youth program by:
a. planning the yearly program, including the needs of youth and considering the resources available.
b. Implementing the Hamilton County 4-H youth program and plan of work by working with the extension staff in providing support for planned Hamilton County 4-H youth activities and events.
c. Evaluating the progress of the 4-H youth program and reporting this progress to the Hamilton County Extension Board.
2. Promote interest in the Hamilton County 4-H youth program by:
a. Planning and promoting activities that will encourage personal, leadership and life skill development.
b. Recruiting and securing 4-H leaders, volunteers and members.
c. Informing the community and gaining support for the Hamilton County 4-H youth program.
3. Determine and make decisions on 4-H Policy by:
a. Recommending policy for the 4-H program when not determined by district, state or national regulations.
b. Helping interpret policies in the county.
c. Monitoring the 4-H program concerning existing policies.
4. Secure and manage the private resources available to the 4-H youth program by:
a. preparing an annual budget.
b. Giving direction to acquiring private funds.
c. Approving all expenditures from the Council budget.
d. Holding title to any property owned by the Council and providing for management of such property.
5. Serve as a link between the 4-H program and the Extension Board, Agricultural Society and the public.
6. Serve as the 4-H Expansion and review Committee as required by the Civil rights Act of 1974, Title VI.
7. Provide a recognition program for volunteers and youth in the 4-H program.
Make It With Wool Competition 2019
The object of the Make It With Wool Contest is to promote the beauty and versatility of wool fabrics and yarns; to encourage personal
creativity in sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning and weaving of wool fabrics and yarns; and to recognize creative skills.

• All entries are due October 15, 2019 because of the national wool testing requirements.
• Age is determined by January 1, 2019 (national rule).
• In addition to the National and State entries fees there is a $7 wool testing fee per fabric swatch and/or 36 inch length of yarn.
• The entry form has been enlarged and will be printed on 8.5 X 11 inch size paper. Contestants will need to print copies of the entry form.
• The size of the wool sample(s) required for national entry has changed (see brochure).
• Entries are mailed to Andrea Nisley, PO Box 757, Lexington NE 68850-0757 (see brochure).

Nebraska 4-H Fed Steer Challenge
The University of Nebraska – Extension 4-H Youth Development and Department of Animal Science present the
Nebraska 4-H Fed Steer Challenge 2020. The Fed Steer Challenge is a contest/educational opportunity for youth
with a desire to become the next generation of leaders in the Nebraska Cattle Industry.
The goal is to enhance the educational value of the traditional 4-H Market Beef Project by rewarding production merit
and carcass value of the market animal, along with accurate & complete record-keeping, industry knowledge, and
producer engagement by the 4-H member.
The contest will consist of two parts:
I. Raising a Commercial Steer
4-H’er selects and raises a commercial steer to market weight (~1,350 lbs.).
Utilizes management and nutrition protocol similar to a commercial feedlot.
Maintains detailed record book related to the management and feeding of the steer
Steers will be displayed in the Nebraska 4-H Fed Steer Challenge Commercial Cattle Class at the 2020
Nebraska State Fair.
Steers will be visually evaluated by a commercial cattle buyer representing a packer.
Predicted Carcass Merit (USDA Quality Grade and Yield Grade) and Market Value
Following the live exhibition, steers will be transported to a commercial packer, harvested and carcass data
collected.
II. Evaluation of 4-H’ers knowledge and interpersonal skills
Knowledge related to their project and the Cattle Industry as a whole
Accuracy and details related to record books
Showcase Presentation with representatives from the Cattle industry
Recognition and awards will be based upon:
Carcass Merit and Carcass value
Record book
Project Presentation
Interview with representatives from the cattle industry

On-line applications will be due December 1, 2019. 4-H’ers will be informed of their selection into the program
by mid-December. Cattle selection day will TBA. Industry interviews and awards will be held during the
Nebraska Cattleman’s Convention in Kearney.
