Move-In day & Welcome Week
A number of campus offices will be open on that Saturday from 10:00-3:00: Student Financial Services, Student Health Center, IT Helpdesk, SUperCopy (ID printing) and the Campus Store. Feel free to stop by those areas if you have questions.
The Family Farewell with Fr. Steve beings at 3:00. We ask families to say their goodbyes by 4:15. Students have a full slate of Welcome Week activities beginning right after that. Signature Welcome Week events are listed here.
Commuter families, please come to campus in time for the 3:00 address.
We know the day is emotional and might seem chaotic. Patience and flexibility will make it easier for everyone.
Dean of Students message to families
On behalf of the Office of the Dean of Students, welcome to the Redhawk family! We are enjoying a beautiful, sunny summer in Seattle while eagerly awaiting your student’s arrival on-campus. I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about the resources available to your student through the Office of the Dean of Students. We work in partnership with staff and faculty across campus to cultivate a safe, healthy, and engaged living and learning environment where students can thrive both inside and outside of the classroom.
Sometimes students face difficult circumstances in their personal or academic lives that become a potential barrier to their success. When faced with these challenges, our CARE Team offers help, support, and referrals to resources with the goal of helping students overcome barriers to their full participation in campus life. You can refer a student to the CARE Team by visiting our online referral form.
You are our partners in supporting your student, and you can learn more about the resources available through our office at http://www.seattleu.edu/deanofstudents. In addition, I invite you to call or email me any time you have questions to ask or concerns to share (206-296-6060 or willettj@seattleu.edu). To protect their privacy, your student would need to sign a release form in Student Center 140 in order for us to discuss specific issues, but we can always answer general questions and provide more information about Seattle University resources at any time.
I look forward to partnering with you in support of your student’s success at Seattle U.

Health Center info
There has been some confusion about the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and access to the Student Health Center. All students have access to the Student Health Center even if they choose to waive the SHIP. The cost to see one of the Nurse Practitioners is a $5 administrative visit fee for all students. If a student doesn’t have SHIP they would be charged for services that carry an additional cost including immunizations. They would need to pay at the time of service and a receipt could be provided to submit to private insurance companies to request reimbursement.
Any additional questions about insurance please see https://www.seattleu.edu/student-health/insurance/.Helping Your Student #getSUinvolved
According to this article from US News & World Report, getting involved can help your student in 5 ways:
- It allows students to become connected to their school. Go Redhawks!
- It helps them build community.
- It allows them to discover their passions and strengths.
- It’s a resume builder.
- Sometimes, busier kids do better in all areas (varies by student)
Here at Seattle U, we have a long tradition of student leadership and involvement that spans our 126 years. To help your student learn more about clubs, organizations, events, volunteer opportunities, student government, and more, have them check out ConnectSU by going to www.seattleu.edu/ConnectSU. After logging in and creating an account, they’ll be ready to start tracking their involvement! We think it’s a great tool for all students to find what they’re interested in on their time.
Some great events they’ll find once they’re in ConnectSU:
- Welcome Week Events: A great way for your student to learn more about our campus community
- Fall Involvement Fair: talk to club leaders and find out how to get involved
- Block Party: Center for Community Engagement’s annual launch event
- Mass of the Holy Spirit: Annual mass to celebrate the academic year
- Fall Ball: SEAC’s annual fall dance
- New Student Retreat: Campus Ministry provides a great retreat for all new students
- Christmas Tree Lighting: Celebrate the holiday season with this annual tradition
If your student has any questions about involvement across campus, they can visit the Center for Student Involvement on the 3rd floor of the Student Center (350/360), across from the Hawk’s Nest Bistro. We’re happy to help navigate their experience with them!
