Complete High School Maize
February 2024
A Note from Principal Hilliard
Hello Wolfpack Family!!
Wow, I cannot believe it is February already. January brought some awesome new students who had incredible mentors who got them off to a good start AND we had several snow days (CHSM's snow dance helped with one of them). We celebrated Elijiah's graduation in December and we have had several graduations to kick off the new year - Brooklynn, Nate, Ray, Dustin and William; we are so proud of you!! We are also so thankful for our Complete Citizens in January: Jayvin, Loren and Dom - thank you for representing CHSM so well! Our student of the month for November was Jon and December was Xavier - way to go!
I cannot believe conferences are coming up! Conferences will be Thursday, February 22nd at CHSM
- I am including a link for you to sign up - https://forms.gle/2r7ynWBSQF81xHAc9
The conferences in the spring are a group format. You will sign up for a time either at the top of the hour (if your student is a senior) or the bottom of the hour (if your student is an underclassman). The information presented will be specific to those two groups of students. If you are not sure of your student's graduation date - ask them - we just went over PEPs last week. You will also have an opportunity to talk to classroom teachers if your student is not current on contracts or if they are current, you are more than welcome to stop in and see them.
We also have a great opportunity for those interested in filling out the FAFSA. Financial aid reps from Butler County (who we have a long standing relationship with) will be here from 5-8pm the night of conferences. If you are interested in filling out the FAFSA, please bring your taxes/W2 information and she will get you set up. I have added a flyer about the night in this newsletter. She wanted me to let parents know that your FAFSA process that night will be successful if you go to fafsa.gov and set up a FAFSA ID by Sunday, February 18. If you do it the night of conferences, they can get you started, but it is doubtful you will complete the process. Click Here
A reminder that conferences are not optional - a parent and their student must attend before they can come back to school. :) In the last 25 years we are proud of our 100% conference attendance!
We LOVE conference time and getting back in touch with parents! It takes a village and we are so happy to be a part of your village.
Our site council would like to help with food for our staff at conferences - CHSM will provide the main meal for staff, but for parents who want to contribute, please send a breakfast item, snack item or drink anytime before or on the day of conferences. If you would be prefer to donate cash to help offset the cost of the meal, feel free to do this as well - you can get items to Michelle. We appreciate all you do for us.
If you have questions please contact Michelle - mhilliard@usd266.com
We have A LOT going on in February and we can't wait to get started!
Some important reminders:
- Contracts were due January 31! (1 for each class)
- February 29 - 2 contracts due for each class
- 3:00 week - February 19-21 (buses will not run)
- No school Thursday, February 22 - conferences - sign up, please!
- Graduation information - Seniors planning on walking at MHS/MSHS graduation must complete all requirements by 4:15 on Tuesday, May 14th. Adam will have information about graduation at conferences.
Attendance
We implemented mandatory Build Your Bank this 9 weeks. It has gone well. Once a student reaches 1395 minutes they will be required to be in Build Your Bank to earn back time. The student must be at school by 8:15 or they will have a Monday Morning Meeting with staff to discuss their status at CHSM. The number one indicator of success at CHSM is attendance - we cannot help students who are not here. We only want students to be successful. When students are at school 85% of the time or more they will 100% graduate! Please encourage your child to be at school even on the hard days, especially on the hard days; we will help them through. Students who want to come in on a Friday who have less than 1395 non-productive minutes are welcome and we encourage that. This is a great opportunity to get ahead on their contracts. As a reminder - if a student misses a full day of school, coming to Build Your Bank only makes up half of that day. It will take 2 days of BYB to make up for being gone one day.
Thank you so much for your continued support. Can't wait to see you at conferences!
Michelle

District and CHSM Fees
District fees are $115 and can be paid online via your family access account. CHSM fees are $100 and can be paid with cash, check or credit card by calling Cherrie @ 316-722-4790. If you have outstanding fees from last year, please pay those asap.
Subs Needed
There is always a need for substitute teachers. On any given day, Maize will utilize 30-130 licensed substitute teachers across the district. Some of these individuals take long term assignments and others work one day a month. Any amount of time is beneficial.
Click here to apply to be a Substitute Teacher with Maize USD 266.
Pays $130/day
You select the assignment you want based on your schedule, preferred grade level or school.
Substitute teachers must be licensed by KSDE. This involves submitting a license application, fingerprint card for background check, and official transcripts showing at least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university.
Fingerprint cards can be picked up at the Educational Support Center (905 Academy, Maize) and completed by the Maize Police Department.
