Feinstein Keepsake Journal and Book Drive Update!
Our first school wide good deed was a book drive! You may recall reading in a September LaPerche Ledger about a young girl named Julia who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is a bone disease. She had been spending time at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and she found a problem. She loves to read, but at the hospital they don’t have many books. The September student council challenged all LaPerche students to donate books to help not only this little girl, but every child in the hospital! They set a goal of 1000 books and are happy to report that the goal was met and exceeded! Mr. Austin has taken all of the books and dropped them to Julia! The total books collected will be announced at tomorrow's Morning Meeting!
Thank you for the donations,
Nathan Cogswell, Alex Henson, Giada Cambio, Patience Laboissonniere.

NED was at LaPerche! Do you know who NED is and what he represents? Ask your child and see if he or she knows and then check out below for the answer!
During the presentation, she encouraged us to follow NED's Rules which are listed below!
N stands for NEVER GIVE UP! E stands for ENCOURAGE OTHERS! D stands for DO YOUR BEST!!
Megan looks for a student to tell the crowd what it takes to be a champion in life and at school!
Preston and Audrey tell the crowd how to be a champion at school including working hard and practicing so you can get better!
Mason goes deeper and tells the crowd to research what you want to learn about and then spend the time that is needed to get better at something. It may take a long time to get good at something!
Megan encouraged everyone to look their teacher in the eye and tell him or her to "Never Give Up on ME!"
Megan asked the teachers to look at each other and encourage each other--Mrs. Beckel tells Mr. Davenport "You ROCK"!!
Megan explains that sometimes we all make mistakes but you can take those mistakes, turn them around and turn them into something new!
Check out below for a glimpse into life at LaPerche during the last two weeks!
Fifth graders working on vocabulary!
Third graders work with partners or in small groups to sequence the events from the Paperbag Princess.
Throughout all classrooms, LaPerche teachers provide opportunites for students to collaborate on school work. Students work together to problem solve and share knowledge which helps deepen understanding and build relationships.
Ms. Paolino introduces a new reading strategy called "cross checking". When you cross check you check if the word looks right, sounds right and makes sense.
The class uses the strategy to read a new book together. When they come to an unfamiliar word they cross check!
Every day students have opportunites to work with teachers one on one and in small groups.
Mrs. Martel's first graders conduct a science experiment to determine if an object will sink or float.
Students in Grade 2 are getting hands-on experience as they observe the physical attributes and habits of mealworms in our study of insects. Second Graders will see the complete metamorphosis of several insects as we continue with the Unit.
