March 18th - First Friday - Wear your Blue Ribbon T-Shirt Day
Each spring, Alaskan students are provided an opportunity to show what they know. When students show what they know, teachers and parents can partner to promote student success. This year, the State of Alaska Department of Education has partnered with NWEA to align the English language arts and mathematics tests with the MAP Growth benchmark assessments students take in fall, winter and spring. This balanced assessment system will target instruction and better support meeting students’ individual learning needs.
AK STAR (Alaska System of Academic Readiness) and the Alaska Science Assessment are administered to students in Grades 3-9 (English language arts and mathematics) and grades 5, 8 and 10 (science) each spring. The purpose of a large-scale, summative assessment is to provide parents and schools an overall picture of a student’s progress in meeting the Alaska standards at his/her grade level. The assessment is taken on the computer and is not timed, but each content area takes approximately 150-180 minutes. Additionally, an English Learner student who has recently arrived to the country in grades 3-9, will not be taking the ELA portion of AK STAR.
Parents can locate resources for the new AK STAR test and the Alaska Science Assessment, including directions for Practice tests and Tutorials on the ASD website at https://www.asdk12.org/akstar.
Parents can also help by ensuring their children are well rested, eat a nutritious breakfast, and are at school on time for the days of testing. Please avoid scheduling appointments on your child’s testing days.
Students...Get ready to show what you know!

TRANSITION to INFORMED MASKING
it is my sincere hope that our school community will model kindness and respect toward one another, regardless of any individual's choice to wear a mask or not to wear a mask. This will go a long way toward insuring Eagle Academy continues to be a shining example of decorum.
Thank you for your support!
Our annual IditaRead Kick-off is here!
- Who: All students (and staff) of Eagle Academy!
- What: Race to the Finish on a Reading Challenge - The Iditaread is a reading race that follows the Iditarod Trail. Log the hours read to each checkpoint, which will line up with trail checkpoints posted in the school hallways. During each week, as minutes are logged, a dog with your student's name will be moved to the checkpoints along the hallway.
- Where: Anywhere you can read!
- When: Logging minutes starts Thursday, March 3rd, and goes through Wednesday, March 31st
- Why: To encourage ALL students to read and develop a love of reading! For extra incentive, there are small prizes at a few checkpoints, and prizes for each finisher. Every finisher will also be entered into a drawing to win Get Air passes.
- How: Track the minutes your child reads and the minutes you read to your child. Each minute read is equal to one mile on the Iditarod Trail - a total of 975 this year. When the amount of minutes read reaches a main checkpoint, you can fill out the google form (link below) to submit their minutes. The form can be submitted multiple times for each checkpoint.
Please see the attached flyer for more details! Also attached is a list of checkpoints and corresponding minutes, as well as a map of this year's Iditarod trail to follow along. Below is the link for the google form to log minutes: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeHvpsDIun1J_tBjTmCIMp34kyHlia-0ybNuSy-oY7rOmAZnA/viewform?usp=sf_link

Happy Reading!
Starting 4th Quarter (March 14th)
With this in mind (in addition to staffing and room availability) we will be shifting the 30 minute detention from lunch to after school (3:20-3:50 pm) for disciplinary infractions starting March, 14th.
The teacher assigning the detention will notify parent(s)/guardians via phone or text messages. Parents will have the option of their child serving the detention that same day or the next day (to allow for time to adjust/arrange for pick-up transportation).
We understand that your time is valuable. Teachers will use the utmost discretion and professional judgement when handling matters of student discipline.
The Student Survey will be given to students in grades 3-6 at Eagle Academy during the week of March 14-18th. Students will complete the survey online during the school day. The student survey will ask questions such as how students feel about school, their perceptions of how students treat each other, their relationships with staff, social and emotional skills, and observed risk behaviors of other students at school and school events. There are different surveys for younger students (grades 3-5) and older students (grades 6-12).
The Family Survey: We also value input from our families. You are an important partner as we work to continually improve our school environment. Each parent/guardian is asked to complete one survey during the next two weeks (February 23 - March 11th). If you have more than one child attending this school, you only need to fill out one survey. All surveys are voluntary, anonymous, confidential, and do not ask questions about students’ families.
Survey for ASD Families: https://surveys.panoramaed.com/aasb/asdfamily
Results from this survey will be used to identify student, staff and family perceptions of school climate at Eagle Academy. The results from the survey will help to inform school administration's efforts to ensure that Eagle Academy is a safe, supportive, and caring place for all students and staff.
Thank you (in advance) for your feedback and participation in this year’s School Climate and Connectedness Survey.
Sincerely,
Deanne Carroll ~ Principal
High Expectations and Low Variance
Staff have been noticing an up-tick in students out of compliance with our uniform policy. During COVID, we have been lax in enforcing aspects of the dress code policy, however as we strive to return to pre-COVID routines, we will be expecting students to dress according to our uniform dress code.
Please help us by insuring that your students' uniform fits properly, is clean, neat, free of stains, holes and rips, and that all items comply with the dress code (this includes socks).
With just a few more months left, you may not want to purchase new sets to replace items that your student(s) have out grown. The PTO does have a variety of items and sizes available to swap out or purchase. Their contact information is at the bottom of the newsletter.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Deanne Carroll ~ Principal

If you have gently used pieces in wearable condition (minor stains are okay), feel free to drop them off at the front office.
It's crunch time for the EACS Yearbook.
The theme this year is "Here Is Our Story." I want it to be representative of the story of our students, staff, and school.
Final call for pictures you might want to share that are due by Tuesday (tomorrow)! You can email them to jeeperjoebundy@yahoo.com or post them on our Facebook page. I will have a request for Yearbook photo post and you can just put them there- or FB message them to Jennifer DeKay Bundy.
I only have 7 responses from the whole school on the questionnaire and would love to have more! If your student is able to fill out the Google Form, that would be the easiest. If you are able to help them fill it out if they need it, that would be great too. If you need to print off a paper copy and have it filled out that way and send it in with them, that works too! I just want to get as many answers as I can!
You don't have to answer all the questions, but please answer as many that apply to you and you feel comfortable answering.
You can find the survey at: https://forms.gle/6q8HQoYAUb6qTCcbA
The Yearbook order deadline has been extended to this Friday, March 18! Last chance to preorder. Once the preorder deadline passes, then you will only be able to purchase on a first come, first served basis the last week of school. So preorder to make sure you are able to get your copy!
