WINTER!!
Also, please remember that your child must have a doctor's note on file in the office if they are not able to go outside for recess due to an illness.
Please Don't Spread Your Illness!
- If your child is ill, please keep them home.
- If your child is running a fever, their temperature must be normal (98.6 degrees) for a 24 hour period before returning to school.
- Please do not send medication to school. Staff cannot (by state law) dispense medication without a form signed by your doctor. This includes over the counter medication (ointments, cough drops, Tylenol, etc.). The forms can be found on the PKE website under the Parent tab.
- A doctor's note is required if your child has to stay indoors for recess.
- Please discuss proper hand washing with your child and they should not share food or drinks with others.
- Please sneeze or cough into your elbow or tissue.
If your child is absent due to illness, please contact the PKE attendance line at (248)623-3990.
Doctor's notes will be kept on record and are referred against a student's attendance record as needed. Compulsory Michigan attendance law requires that PKE maintains accurate attendance records and those excessive absences are properly reviewed. Appropriate medical documentation helps to support a student's cause when evaluating a potential truancy concern.
Mask Policy
Beginning in Fall 2021, masks will be required for all district staff and students in Grades Y5-12 at all times, indoor on school campuses except when eating or drinking. Masks will also be worn on school buses. Masks should fit snugly on the face and cover both the nose and mouth. Masks are required unless a documented medical exception is presented to administration.
Bus Drop Offs & Inclement Weather
The parent/caregiver is responsible to inform their child of an alternative location to go if the parent/caregiver is not at home in time of the bus drop off. Parents/caregivers must be available for students anytime after school is dismissed.
The office will communicate with PKE families via E-blasts if buses are running late due to bad weather conditions. If you have not signed up to receive text messages from PKE, please contact the main office for instructions.
Should severe conditions occur after classes are in session, our general policy will be keep bus students in their buildings until we can safely operate the buses. Students will be released only to their parents, to approved adults, or by phone parental authorization.
A NOTE FROM THE KITCHEN - RE: Chocolate Milk
An Important message from the Michigan Department of Education in regards to 1% Chocolate Milk being sold to cold lunch students.
Unfortunately, we are unable to sell 1% Chocolate Milk and can only provide 1% Chocolate Milk if it is part of a complete meal. Prairie Farms does not have another Chocolate Milk option available for us to purchase so we will not be able to change our offering.
In order for cold lunch students to receive 1% Chocolate Milk, they will need to take the following requirements to be compliant with State and USDA guidelines:
1. Fruit AND Veggie
2. Fruit or Veggie WITH a roll
or
3. Entree AND Fruit or Veggie
Students that follow these guidelines will not be charged. This is the only way a student can have Chocolate Milk. Purchasing is no longer an option and they may only have one Chocolate Milk per day. If they do not want the additional requirements with their 1% Chocolate Milk then they can purchase White Milk, water, or juice.
Breakfast and Lunch Provided
Clarkston Community Schools is committed to providing breakfast to all families who are in need and/or are interested in receiving it.
This year, in order to provide a safe and efficient way of distribution, a new method of delivery will be used. Please read the information below and then fill out the form if this is something you are interested in receiving.
Breakfast for Pine Knob Elementary will be sent home every Tuesday and Thursday after school. Tuesday's breakfast package will have meals intended for Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Thursday's breakfast package will have meals intended for Friday, Monday, and Tuesday mornings.
