Glocester Scarecrow Festival Crafts

Visit our booth at the Glocester Scarecrow Festival. Glocester libraries will offer fun scarecrow crafts and take home activities for children.
Harmony Library Used Book Sale

So many great donations have poured in for this book sale! You will find gently used adult fiction and non-fiction, as well as children’s books at amazing prices.
Trick or Treat on Main Street

The Glocester Manton Library is thrilled to be a part of the Trick or Treat on Main Street, sponsored by the Glocester Business Association. We look forward to offering Halloween greets and treats!
Tricks or Treats at the Glocester Manton Library

Make sure to put the Glocester Manton Library on your Trick or Treat list this Halloween. Come visit us for a treat and "check out" one of our many Halloween books as well as our Spooky "Make It Take It" craft.
Children Programs
Story Times at Glocester Libraries
The Story Time programs are designed to be weekly programs. Ideally, participants should be able to attend each week. Spots are still available in:
Baby Story Time (Ages: infant to 2 years): Thursdays at 10 a.m. Harmony Library
Join us for reading, singing, bouncing, playing, and fun! This program is designed to be a weekly program for babies and caregivers to attend together.
Toddler Time (ages 2 - 3 ½): Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Glocester Manton Library
Join us for stories, songs, finger plays, flannel activities, and social play to ready your toddler for preschool and beyond.
Preschool and Kindergarten (3½ – 5): Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Glocester Manton Library and Thursdays at 11 a.m. Harmony Library
The preschool programs are designed to help your child develop skills that are fundamental building blocks for school readiness. Children will read stories, engage in movement/music activities, and do a craft. Children are encouraged to participate independently while caregivers remain in the library.
Make It, Take It Crafts
October 2 through October 31, library hours, Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: 3 years old and up *Children under 5 years old may require parental assistance.
Children are invited to "drop in" to the Glocester Manton Children's Room for a Halloween craft they can make and take home. Crafts will be available during library hours and will rotate on a bimonthly schedule.
Glow in the Dark Experiments
Wednesday, October 4, 4:30 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: 5 years and up
Join us as we turn off the lights and have fun with things that glow. Make glow lava and glow in the dark bouncy balls. We will conduct glow in the dark experiments as we witness the effects of a black light on different materials.
Frightful Food

Age Level: All Ages
Join us as we dine on ghoulish dishes that will make you squirm! All food will be edible and won’t hurt you, but the sight will certainly disgust you.
Paint Mini Pumpkins
Monday, October 23, 10:30 a.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: Infant – 5 years old
Children can venture outside to choose a mini pumpkin from our outdoor “pumpkin patch” and then head inside to paint their pumpkins. Once the paint dries, do not forget to take your pumpkin home.

Cookbook Club
Monday, October 2, 6 p.m., Harmony Library
The Harmony Library Cookbook Club uses the cookbook selection, Eat What You Love Everyday! by Marlene Koch for October's meeting. The club is a great way to sample new dishes without doing all the work! Choose a recipe to make and prepare it for the meeting. Everyone samples each other dishes and discuss the cooking experience. If you would like to join, register online at glocesterlibraries.org and then pick up a copy of the book at the Circulation Desk.
Closing Your Garden

Learn about fall cleanup for vegetable gardens, frost concerns, planting bulbs, shrub and tree care and much more with URI Master Gardener Lee Menard.
Fearless Art Club
Wednesday, October 11 and October 25, 2:30 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
In October, members will continue to explore and practice drawing a variety of textures using graphite and colored pencil. We will also discuss and choose our next art project for November.
Introduction to Mushroom Hunting in Rhode Island

Learn the basics of mushroom science and safety with Ryan Bouchard, author of Gourmet Mushrooms of Rhode Island 2015, and Emily Schmidt, one of the founders of Southern New England Mushroom Hunting.
Medicare Options Workshop

Nancy Mendizabal, the United Healthcare Medicare Solutions licensed sales representative, will present current Medicare options, including the Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and Prescription plans that are available.
Glocester Libraries Walking Club Fall Walk
Wednesday, October 18, 8 a.m., Steere Hill Parking Lot on Putnam Pike (almost across from Harmony Post Office)
The Walking Club returns to the Steere Hill Conservation Area for an autumn walk to enjoy fall foliage. Steere Hill offers a couple hundred acres of gentle slopes, vernal pools, miles of stone walls, and scenic ledge vistas. We will take a look at the seasonal changes on the trail since our last visit during full summer.
Ukulele Workshop
Wednesday, October 18, October 24, November 1 and November 8, 6 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Have you ever wanted to play an instrument? If so, learn to play the ukulele! Musician Tripp Hutchinson will lead a four workshop series for beginners. Ukuleles will not be provided, but a list of sources for good entry level ukuleles will be available at the library. The cost for each class in the series is $5.This program is supported in part by the Friends of the Glocester Manton Library.
Tales of Haunted Places in Southern New England
Monday, October 23, 6 p.m., Harmony Library
Andrew Lake returns to the Harmony Library with tales of haunted places throughout southern New England. Andrew is a New England native who has been fascinated by ghosts ever since his first encounter with one at the age of 11. He is the founder of Greenville Paranormal Research, the author of Ghosthunting Southern New England, and has appeared on PBS and Discovery America.
Writers’ Support Group

Read and share your personal projects at this monthly meeting. This adult group is open to writers in all genres. Registration is not necessary.
