NEW BOOKS!
"A Child of Books" by Oliver Jeffers is a beautifully told and illustrated story of a child's perspective of books and how they stir the imagination. Words from classic books are used in the illustrations and I think it is my favorite book of the year! Oliver Jeffers was the clever illustrator of "The Day the Crayons Came Home," a favorite of Geneva students.
"Before She Was Harriet" by Lesa Cline-Ransome is a beautiful picture book that chronicles Harriet Tubman's life and the roles she played in her fight for freedom. The story is told through poetry and illustrated with beautiful watercolor paintings. A Triple Crown book for 2018-2019 and a treasure to have in our library.
"The Hero Two Doors Down" by Sharon Robinson is a chapter book for 3-5th graders that is based on the true story of a friendship between a young boy and the baseball legend Jackie Robinson. Told by Jackie Robinson's daughter Sharon Robinson who has written many books for children. This story will appeal to those sports fans and its also a Triple Crown book for 2018-2019.
"The Green Colt" by S.J. Dahlstrom is the fourth book in "The Adventures of Wilder Good" series in which Wilder's Papa gives him his very own "green colt" to break. Wilder realizes this will be much more difficult than he thought and along the way, he learns the roots of cowboying. A definite favorite of readers who love ranching, hunting, horses, etc. S.J. Dahlstrom (pen name for Nathan Dahlstrom) visited our school several years ago as part of our Book Week celebration and was an instant favorite! He has his 5th book coming out this Spring titled "Black Rock Brothers" and it might be time to invite him back to Geneva.
