Too Sick For School Guidelines
Just a reminder:
Vomiting, Diarrhea, Stomach Ache
(illnesses may include gastroenteritis, salmonella, rotavirus)
- If your child has had more than one episode of diarrhea or vomiting, please keep your child out of school until symptoms have resolved for at least 24 hours. An exception may be made if diarrhea or vomiting are associated with an ongoing medical issue diagnosed by a physician.
- Contact your health care provider if your child has a stomach ache that is severe enough to limit or restrict activity.
Rash
- If your child has an unusual rash (may or may not be associated with a fever), keep your child at home until you have discussed the rash with your healthcare provider to determine if medical care is needed.
Pink Eye/Conjunctivitis
- Symptoms can include crusty, sticky, itchy, red eyes which may or may not have thick drainage. - Please contact your child’s doctor if your child has any of the following symptoms: eye drainage that comes back every 30 minutes (or more often) after wiping the eye clear, if there is swelling and redness of the area around the eye (below or above), or an eye that is stuck together in the morning. If these symptoms are present, follow up with health care provider is needed prior to returning to school.
Impetigo/MRSA/Ringworm
- These skin conditions can be contagious rashes in children and require treatment by a medical professional prior to returning to school.
- These can look like a pimple or boil and can be red, swollen, painful, or have pus or other drainage present.
- Impetigo and MRSA are caused by bacteria; Ringworm is caused by a fungus (it is not an actual worm). - Students should stay home for 24 hours and/or until area is not draining or can be covered safely. - Other skin conditions such as eczema, heat rashes, bug bites and allergic reactions are not infectious, and a child may come to school with them.
Other Contagious/Nuisance Diseases
- If your child has been diagnosed with a nuisance infestation/disease such as head lice or scabies, he/she may return to school after treatment has been completed. Please contact your health care provider for instruction if you suspect your child needs treatment

Bus Reminder
The mission of the School District of Waukesha Transportation Department is to safely provide efficient, cost-effective, and reliable transportation service to students and staff in a manner that supports the educational objectives of the district.
Bus drivers will always attempt to verbally redirect a student(s) to avoid a written referral. When a student's behavior escalates beyond a driver's control or is not improved after using the appropriate intervention step, the bus driver will submit a bus referral to the school.
Multiple bus referrals will lead to bus suspension as well as bus removal. Help your child keep his or her seat on the bus by following bus safety expectations 100% of the time.
Self Control
In this month of January, we will focus on self-control. Some strategies we use to activate our self-control are to Stop, Think, and then Act. If we are upset (in the red), we use breath and counting to help us be able to activate our self control. Talk with your family about other strategies you can use at home and in the community to activate your self-control.
We will select our community leaders around this skill towards the end of January.
