St. Stan Star

From the Principal's desk
Be strong and take heart, all who hope in the Lord. Psalm 31:25
As we near Thanksgiving Day, I would like to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to all of you parents for trusting the St. Stanislaus School staff with the important task of educating your child(ren). It is a privilege and honor to help your child grow in faith, service, integrity, and leadership. Some days we are met with challenges, but most days we experience the joys and wonders of growing minds and spirits. Have a blessed Thanksgiving. May God continue his blessings on our school community.
Next week there is school on Monday and Tuesday with Tuesday being our Spirit Day. The traditional 8th Grade vs Faculty volleyball game will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the gym. This is usually a loud, but very fun event. Parents are welcome to come watch the fun.
Thanksgiving break begins after classes on Tuesday. There is no school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Because of the short week, there will not be a STAR next week.
Today we reach the midpoint in the second quarter! Progress Reports have been handed to the students in Grades 3-8. In addition, the ITBS test results for each child (Gr. 3-8) are being sent home as well. Look for a large white envelope which should contain both documents. If you have questions regarding either report, please contact your child’s teacher.
Over the next few weeks, the STAR will provide a review of some of the school procedures. Last week the topic was the morning drop off procedure. This is another part of self-study, to review our policies and procedures.
Dismissal Procedure. During dismissal there are almost 200 students moving in many different directions. Teachers and staff members supervise the various places in the building for child safety. Our students do an excellent job of getting themselves to the places they need to be. At this time we are not experiencing any difficulties or problems because our drivers follow the procedure and watch for the safety of our students.
- Carline – Cars enter the parking lot in the back of school off Route W. The carline is three lanes. Drivers remain in the car. Teachers dismiss students in small groups to walk to cars. Teachers check for safety then remove cones for the line of cars to move forward. Cars exit on Route B.
- After School Care Program in the gym. Students enter the gym (1-8) and sit against the wall in their grade designated place until roll can be taken and students are checked in. Early Childhood and Kindergarten are walked down to the Early Childhood room on the lower level. Once roll is taken, the supervisors give instructions for the activities for the day. Parents check students out electronically in the library and then pick up their children.
- Bus line in the front of the school. Students are supervised by teachers until bus arrives. Lines are formed by bus colors.
- Walkers begin to walk home
3:20 Teacher Dismissal bell rings. Any student who has not been picked up are taken to the After School Care program and parents are charged.
5:30 The After School Care program ends. Parents who pick up students after 5:30 are assessed a late fee.
Sometimes it becomes necessary for a parent to change where their child is to go after school. A phone call to the office will allow us to get the message to the teacher. It is helpful if these messages are received before 2:30. Teachers do not have many opportunities during the day to check email messages that is why we ask that a phone call be made.
The end of the school day procedures seem to work well, and I am thankful for all who are attending to the safety of the children.
May the blessings of God our Father and His son Jesus Christ fill you with hope.
