Elementary Students on Campus
To parents of elementary students,
Students in grades K-5 are supervised when they are in study groups and PALS. Any other time elementary students are on campus, they need to be supervised by a parent or family member. They should not be left on their own to go from one extracurricular activity to another. Please plan for your child's supervision, so they can enjoy all the wonderful activities and friendships that are available here on campus.

*** STUDENT SPOTLIGHT ***
Noorhan Amani in Seventeen Magazine
Noorhan Amani, grade 12, is in the November issue of Seventeen Magazine, recognized as a “STEM-inist!” Click here for the magazine article.
Noorhan is the president of our Mt. Everest Academy Girl Up Club, and is immensely passionate about improving the lives of girls in developing countries. Recently she was reading a Seventeen Magazine at the library, and a contest sponsored by Google caught her eye. In order to inspire girls' interest in STEM, Google was asking them to submit essays about why they wanted to learn computer science and coding. Although Noorhan had little experience in coding, she's aware that girls in developing countries often have limited access to healthcare, and she envisioned an app that would allow these girls to find nearby health clinics or confidentially message a doctor. Her essay describing this app was chosen as one of the five winners!
As a contest winner, Google treated Noorhan and her parents to a 3-day trip up to their headquarters in Mountain View, CA. The Amani family stayed in a luxury hotel and toured the city, and on Friday the winners and their parents visited Google. There the five girls worked together with female engineers, getting inspiration and feedback for improving and implementing their app ideas. Noorhan also got a first hand look at the Google corporate culture: employees mostly wear jeans and t-shirts, the cafeteria offers a diversity of ethnic food as their employees come from all around the world, and employees can play volleyball and other sports outside during lunch. The corporate environment includes a community garden, hair salon, and laundry facilities. Their campus is so vast that bicycles are provided (painted in Google colors!) for employees to ride from one building to another.
Coming home from this experience, Noorhan is inspired to pursue building her app, as a path towards making her dream of improving the lives of girls in developing countries into a reality.
As a historical reference to Noorhan's passion to help others, click here to read the poignant, award-winning essay she wrote in the 8th grade about her trip to Bangladesh.
