Our building theme for April focuses on self-identity along with learning around various careers. Self-Identity is the way in which a person views themselves, their role in the world, and what is valued by the individual. This includes all parts that make up one's self. Everyone has multiple identities. Some of these identities are similar to others around us and some are different. A healthy sense of identity helps children be more open to people who are different from them. They are less likely to fear differences or put others down in order to feel better about themselves. Having strong and positive self identities helps students feel safe and confident about who they are as individual and healthy relationships with others and helps develop a sense of belonging within group structures.
Ways You Can Support Your Child(ren)'s Identity at Home:
Acknowledging what and who is important to them.
Try not to place too much emphasis on any one single social role.
Encourage children to try new and different things and experiences.
Remind them of all important roles that they play in life (ex: child, grandchild, sibling, cousin, student, community member, teen advocate, neighbor, etc.).
Let's hope all of this snow melts and the water replaces the typical "April Showers" so we can see some flowers start to pop up along with more sun and warmer weather!
Happy April, Terrapins!

Token Springs Reminders
Door Buzzer
When visiting the school, please continue to use our door buzzer system (located at the far right of the main entrance with a red sign). This is a district-wide protocol that will continue to help ensure the right people are in our building for the right reasons. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe!
Wellness Policy
Baked goods that are served or provided in the classrooms must be purchased, not homemade, and be in a wrapper which contains nutrition information and expiration date. For more information on the Sun Prairie Area School District's wellness policy, please click on the following links: Policy JHK, JHK-R
Planning on Chaperoning or Volunteering?
Are you planning on chaperoning field trips or volunteering at Token Springs this year? Criminal background checks are now completed online. If you have not had a criminal background check completed in the last 3 years, please take a moment to fill out the online criminal background check.
Did you know?
It can take up to two weeks for your background check to be approved. If you are planning on chaperoning any upcoming field trips or volunteering in the school, please take a moment to fill out the online criminal background check so that you are ready to go when these events occur.
Asynchronized Learning Day
Asynchronous learning means students will receive learning opportunities from their teachers to complete at home. Students will not attend school on April 7th. A packet of learning activities designed for each grade level will be sent home for students to complete. Activities should be returned to school as they will be helpful for the teacher to understand your child’s progress. Please watch your email for further communications.
Token Springs Food Drive
This year Token Springs will join other elementary schools in the district participating in The Sun Prairie Food Pantry Challenge. Our Student Leadership Team will be collecting food and donations from April 3 - April 21. Students will be receiving a plastic bag to bring in any donations during this time. Three schools participating will be chosen to receive a $500 cash prize and the school who brings in the most donations will win a $1,000 prize!
Along with these great opportunities, if Token Springs collects 1,000 items, all grade levels will earn an extra recess. If we reach 2,000 items, all students will earn a freezie pop. If we can collect 4,000 items, one student from each grade level will have the opportunity to PIE Mr. Marincic in the face!
Money may also be donated. Each $1.00 will be equivalent to 2 donation items.
Thank you for helping us support the Food Pantry!

A reminder that all Volunteer Terrapins must complete the District Volunteer Application prior to volunteering at Token Springs. Please keep in mind that applications may take up to 2 weeks to process and you can reach out to the Token Springs main office to check the status of your volunteer application. Be sure to have your ID with you and sign in at the main office on your volunteer day and also make sure to check out in the office at the end of your volunteer time. This helps us keep track of who is in the building at any given time.

Strep Throat is Back!
We have had multiple cases of “strep” throat infection in school. Here is what you need to know:
What are the symptoms of strep throat?
Common symptoms include: sore throat, pain when swallowing, fever, and swollen lymph nodes. Some children may also have a headache or stomach ache. In rare cases, a bright red skin rash may occur, this is known as scarlet fever. If a person also has a cough, runny nose, and/or sneezing it is more likely to be a viral infection and not strep throat.
How is strep spread?
Strep throat usually results from direct contact with another person with strep. The incubation period is 2-5 days.
Is there a treatment for strep?
Strep throat is usually treated with an antibiotic. If your child has strep throat he/she must
be on antibiotics for at least 12-24 hours (as directed by your healthcare provider) and have a
temperature less than 100.4 for 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medication) before
returning to school.
Got Plastic Bags?
If you have any extra plastic shopping bags, please send them our way! Thanks!

What is SCOTS?
SCOTS or the School Community Organization of Token Springs is the Parent Group here at Token Springs. PTA... PTO... SCO... Same thing. Parents coming together to build a sense of community around our school. We organize events for afterschool, help show our appreciation to our dedicated staff, and can help facilitate things the school can't (like connecting parents via a voluntary directory).
We are a 501(3)(c) non profit. We are run by volunteers. We have a 5 member board this year (most in Sun Prairie, woot woot!), we have amazing volunteers that run Book Fairs, design Spirit Wear, create haunted houses, organize a Terrapin Trot, put together the Yearbook and so much more.
So if you have an event idea, email us at tokenspringssco@gmail.com and we will help make it happen. A Ga Ga Ball Tournament? A sidewalk chalk contest? A snowball fight? Bring the idea and we'll bring the resources and manpower to make the event happen. Our meetings happen the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 at Token Springs AND via zoom.

Bus Evacuation Drills
Per state law, the district is required to practice bus evacuation drills twice a year. Bus evacuations will be held the 3rd week in April, and buses could be delayed on the days the drill occurs. Sometimes it could become necessary to exit the school bus by the back door. Please talk with you
children about doing these steps safely:
● Keep calm
● Listen to the driver’s instructions
● Beginning with the last seats, move to the back door
● Do not push or shove
● When you get to the back door, sit on your bottom and scoot to the edge
● Slide off the edge slightly pushing yourself out away from the bus
● Keep your knees bent
● Walk quickly away to the safe spot designated by your driver
● Wait for further instructions from your driver
Parents, please remember that if your child’s bus is evacuated for any reason (bus breakdown,
emergency, etc.) students are not allowed to leave the scene. Students must stay with the driver and wait for further instructions. If another bus is dispatched, students are to ride that bus and only get off at their assigned stop.
