Welcome to Spring! At least we have had a few nice days of spring-like weather and the snow is gone…mostly.
This week 6th grade Math is working on finding surface areas of rectangles, triangles and prisms. Some classes are also working on using percentages in word problems.
Body systems are the focus in 6th grade Science. The students have already learned about the circulatory, digestive and integumentary systems. Now we are on to muscular and respiratory systems.
In Language Arts we are finishing up our Olympic Unit and will be studying the civil rights movement next week. Following spring break, we will begin our new unit on writing arguments. We will be looking at different social issues as our topics. This week students have been presenting their Winter Olympic projects. Students were given lots of time to work on their projects and have been asked to work on them outside of class if they are not done.
Social Studies: We are finishing up our Olympian flipbook projects detailing the accomplishments of an Olympian of choice. Some students chose some of the original Olympic heroes from ancient times in Greece and others more modern-day Olympians. We will do a compare/contrast activity when we are done with our research.
Personalized Learning: For most blocks, our Junior Achievement course called “It’s My Future Blended” ended on Wednesday. A special shout out to our community volunteers who shared their time and talents with us. We learned a lot about what we can do now to prepare ourselves for future careers! We continue that exploration with our JA Career speakers. Today some blocks had speakers from the career cluster “Information Technology.” Thanks to those volunteers.
Thank you for your continued support.
The Variety Show is on Tuesday, March 6! Opening acts start at 5 pm; main show starts at 6:30. Silent Auction and Bake Sale from 5-7:30 pm. Tickets are $5 (includes admission and reserved seating). Tickets can be purchased at the main office or the night of the performance. We have some wonderful acts scheduled--many by our talented students!
Of course, we can’t forget that spring break is coming the week of March 12-16th. Have a wonderful weekend!
