The Scoop on 4th Grade
with Miss Lejsner, Mrs. Napoleoni & Mrs. Smith
April 12th, 2019
Dear 4th grade parents,
Curriculum Corner
Reading/Writing
Our biography unit is well underway and we have read about a variety of very interesting and admirable individuals. All of the children have been working hard to research and take notes about their biography subject. We have been encouraging the children to make sure their notes are complete and accurate as they will be using them to write a report and create presentation flash cards. The more quality information they have in their notes, the more they will have to choose from when they are working on their final products. The students have all officially started their biography rough drafts. We are taking it one paragraph at a time to ensure they are including important and interesting information in an organized manner. At this point in the biography unit, your child may bring home their biography, notes, and/or reports if they or we feel extra work is necessary.
Math
We are continuing to work through Chapter 7. This is a challenging chapter and we are very proud of how hard our students are trying to learn all of the concepts. We have been focusing on simplifying and comparing fractions with unlike denominators.
Science/Social Studies
We are currently traveling across the Southwest Region on a big rig. So far we have stopped at Monument Valley, Phoenix, AZ, and the Hoover Dam. The students discussed what it would be like as engineers to figure out how to design the Hoover Dam. We also appreciated the depth and beauty of the Grand Canyon. Keep studying those states and capitals!
