THE MAGIC FLUTE UPDATE
THANK YOU to everyone who auditioned or applied to participate in The Magic Flute and congratulations on doing your very best!
Please click here to view the cast and crew list.
IF YOU HAVE BEEN CAST (as a cast or CREW member) REMEMBER TO EMAIL ADIRA ROSEN at adirajenny18@gmail.com TO CONFIRM YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE PRODUCTION!
A Note About Casting:
- If you have been cast, be proud and excited. However, it is also important to be gracious and kind about the fact that you have been cast, especially to your peers who may not have been cast.
- If you have not been cast, it is okay to be upset because you worked hard for this and you wanted to be a part of the cast. Realize, however, that things happen for many reasons. Be gracious and kind to those who got cast and never speak ill of a company or a director. Always find out if you can work on the production in another way. Don't let this one audition discourage you, audition again!
If you have been cast in The Magic Flute, you will receive an e-mail with exciting information about the production, the rehearsal schedule, and your script by Friday, December, 16th, 2016 at the very latest.
If you have not been cast, but would like to help out with other aspects of the production, be sure to look for more information about ushering, and set building in the Monday Messages over the next few weeks.
Many Thanks & Congratulations,
Adira Rosen

Which Piece of Music Do You Find the Most Relaxing?
Hello,
I am a student here at Mt. Everest Academy, and I am requesting feedback for my science project. You may remember that last year, I did a project using a platformer video game to assess subjects’ tastes in music. However, that project did not produce any conclusive results, as many subjects focused on the game rather than the test itself. This year, I have altered the project significantly in order to produce conclusive results. This year's version of the project consists of a Google Form instead of a computer game.
Please click on and listen to each of the three pieces of music that are linked below.
Then, please click the link below to sign in to your Google Account (each subject should have their own account, as the system only allows one vote per account; your school stu.sandi.net account will work for this) and choose the number of the piece you found most relaxing. (Make sure that you have listened to all 3 pieces before you make your choice!)
It is my goal this year to have data from 100 subjects. It would be great if parents took the test as well! Due to the Science Fair, I will need all submissions by January 8th.
Please send any questions in an email to mounteverestmusicproject@gmail.com.
Thank you for helping me reach this goal!
Hygiene Drive
The MEA Social Advocacy Club is holding a hygiene drive for the International Rescue Committee, a local refugee resettlement agency. Items requested are: shampoo, body wash/soap, hair brushes, and women's hygiene products.
Drop off points are at school in the office and in Ms. Pachon's room. If you wish to make a monetary donation, drop it off in a sealed envelope with Ms. Pachon at classroom 17A. The drive will end on Friday, December 16.
Thank you and have a wonderful day!

***** STUDENT SPOTLIGHT *****
Video Animation by Rachel E.
Click here to see Rachel's animation project.
Rachel E., grade 12, had fun taking an animation class at UCSD! Her class was introduced to "Disney's 12-Principles of Animation" which are the animation industry's universal standard. Here's a simplified overview of the process Rachel used in creating her animation:
- Plan the story by filling out a Thumbnail Storyboard.
- All drawings are done by hand and on top of a Light Box, to enable seeing through paper to create a smooth transition from one drawing to the next.
- Draw Key Poses first, which are for the beginning and end of a movement. The timing charts on the right show the numbers from one Key Pose to the next. Then to create the illusion of life, several drawings called "Inbetweens" are inserted between the Key Pose drawings.
- Scan each drawing into the computer and then import them into iStopMotion (Mac) or MonkeyJam (PC).
- Exposure Sheets (X-Sheets) are filled out to determine the timing, dialogue, drawing numbers, and everything needed to keep track of all the frames.
Enjoy the animation!
