Wednesday, June 17, 8 .m., Wolf Hill Forest Preserve on Waterview Drive in Smithfield (We will meet at the trailhead on Waterview Drive.)
The Glocester Libraries Walking Club kicks off the 2020 season with a new destination! Wolf Hill Forest Preserve in Smithfield Land Trust property offering several miles of beautiful trails, including the World War II Memorial Trail. For the most part, we will be walking single-file on narrow trails making it easier to follow social distancing guidelines. Please bring a mask though, for those occasions when we take a break and chat.
Glocester Libraries Walking Club (Walk #2)
Wednesday, June 26, 8 a.m., Ponaganset High School Cross Country Trail, 91 Anan Wade Road. We will meet at the former middle school parking lot.
Used by the PHS Cross Country Team and host to the State Cross Country Championships, wide and well-groomed trails boast three bridges and one beautifully crafted covered bridge. Ambitious walkers can finish their hike with a lap or two around the high school track!
Summer Reading Program 2020 - Registration Begins June 15
Some of the Youth Programs that we will be offering include:
- Walking Club (Adults & Teens)
- Safe Sitters (Teens)
- Plein Air Drawing (Adult & Teens)
Some of our virtual programs that we will be offering include:
- Animal Adventures (Zoom Meeting, Family)
- Rapunzel and Tinkerbell (Zoom Meeting, Preschool and up)
- Armchair Tour of Glocester's Libraries (Zoom Meeting, Adults and Family)
If at anytime the current COVID-19 health situation reverts back to crisis level, we will cancel "live" programs.
Registering for the reading portion of the Summer Reading Program is similar to last year; register through Eventkeeper found on our website: glocesterlibraries.org. This gives us a concise list of participants that we can share with your child's respective school. It will be a great way to start the school year!
Children can track their progress using the fun, old-fashioned method of adding stickers to paper, or they can use the new and equally fun online BeanStack app. Either method will result in
grab bag prizes.
Adults can also use the BeanStack app on their cell phones or the familiar Reader Response form found online or available at the libraries to track their summer reading. Either of these methods will automatically register you as a participant in our Adult Summer Reading Program and enter you into the raffles.
What Should I expect when I visit our reopened libraries?
- COVID-19 Safety Precautions - You will be asked to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and not visit the library if you are sick.
- Cleaning Protocol - Libraries are a unique sort of institution that lends materials that are to be returned. Although touch is not the usual method of transmission of the the COVID-19 virus, it is still a possible method of transmission. All materials that are returned to our libraries will be quarantined for 24 hours and cleaned with disinfectant.
- Contactless Pickup - We will continue to provide contactless pickup services. There will be tables at each library's inside entrance that will hold materials for pickup. Rather than use specific pickup times, you will be asked to tell us which day you wish to pick up your materials, and we will place them at these tables for a more convenient pickup schedule that extends through the day.
- Homebound Delivery - To meet the library needs of those who are under doctor's orders to continue to remain away from public spaces, we will increase our homebound delivery.
- Library Access - Patrons will gain access to the libraries in two ways. We will take reservations to insure that you can access the library upon arrival. If you wish to drop by without a reservation, you are welcome to do so, but access is not guaranteed. There might be a waiting time.
- Library Capacity - Given the size and layout of our libraries, we will be repositioning the browsing areas to meet the social distancing guidelines. Also, our capacity will be reduced to 150 square feet per patron in the building. At the Glocester Manton Library, this will limit us to a maximum of five patrons in the library. At the Harmony Library, this will limit us to a maximum of seven patrons in the library.
- Given the capacity limitations, we ask that only one member of the family enter the library unless this causes a significant inconvenience.
- Library Time - Library visits will be limited to 15 minutes for browsing and checking out books.
- Computer Use - Designated computers will be available for patron use, and we ask that you limit your time to no more than 15 minutes.
- Restrooms - A public restroom will be provided; however, we will be cleaning them twice a day and not after each use.
- Borrowing - The number of items that you can borrow is no longer limited, but there is a limit of five holds that you can have on your account. Holds can only be placed by staff at this time.
- Miss Joan's Tot Lot will remain closed until further notice.
- Seating areas in our libraries will be closed until the capacity guidelines are updated to allow for more visitors.
