Senior and Middle School commemorated Remembrance Day at a touching assembly the morning of November 11. Two Canadian Forces’ veterans came to speak to the students about what Remembrance Day means to them. During the assembly, the students were fortunate to witness Major General (Ret’d) Denis Thompson honour Captain (Ret’d) Ryan Carey with the Medal of Sacrifice for his service in Afghanistan 15 years ago. He spoke to the students about his own sacrifice and the realities of war, reminding them that mental resilience was important on and off the battlefield because we all have our own challenges to face. 24 Hours for the Homeless: The 24 hours for the Homeless awareness campaign is back. Wednesday afternoon, November 23 to Thursday, November 24, Mr. Grier, Ms. Segal, and a clan of courageous, caring and empathic students from Selwyn House School will be participating in the seventh 24 Hours for the Homeless event. This is an eye-opening, challenging and life-changing experience. By participating, your son will acquire a small taste of what some people and youth, just about the same age of our students, live on a daily basis. Our hope is that they take this opportunity to be reminded of the hardships of others and that the students will forever be aware and sensitive to some people who are simply not as lucky as us. As Jesse Caruso (Old Boy 2017) says, "Put yourself in their shoes, they are not much different." If your son is interested in participating, please email Ms. Segal by November 21.
Community Engagement: Looking for volunteering opportunities? Click here to see how you can make a difference!
