InsertLearning- #38
What is InsertLearning?
InsertLearning is a Chrome extension that lets teachers turn any site into an interactive online lesson. Teachers and students can add annotations, embed videos into websites, add maps, quizzes, discussions, and do much more. Ultimately, the goal is that teachers can guide student learning with questions or class discussions online so students can learn outside the classroom and teachers can help the next day in class. With InsertLearning, teachers receive five free lessons.

What does it have to offer?
Let's look at the different tabs InsertLearning has for you...
- Lesson Tab- You can create your own lesson on any web page or find relevant, engaging content with their educator curated search. When choosing to search, you can view text sources or search by topic.
- Grades- This tab allows you to look at your student's grades while using a filter to help with the search. You can filter by class, lesson, questions, and filter by students.
- Classes Tab- This tab allows you to create your own class or import your class from Google Classroom. The InsertLearning has a class code that allows your students to access their InsertLearning class by going to insertlearning.com/signup and entering their class code. Students will need to install the InsertLearning extension as well.
- Resources Tab- Allows you to find content (lesson search), gives you a list of technology tools to embed along with InsertLearning, and public library where you can find lessons that have already been created and shared by educators. Be sure to preview the lesson before assigning it to your class.

What Interactive Tools Does It Offer?
Once you dismiss the lesson template window box, your InsertLearning toolbox will appear on the left side of the web page (see picture below).
Let's take a look at the different tools on the toolbox bar...
- Sticky note- Add a sticky note to the top of the web page to give students directions on the lesson. I would put the sticky note right after the page's title.
- Questions- Click the question tool on the toolbox and then click on a paragraph within the web page to activate the question window. You can only select paragraphs and not individual words. The question window also allows you to choose from a question bank. Click here to read more about questions.
- Adding Discussion- Click the adding question tool and then select a paragraph to start creating the discussion you want.
- Add Notes and Highlights for reading support- Choose the highlighter tool and then select the text or vice versa. You can select a sentence or word. You do not have to select a whole paragraph. You can add a comment to this sentence to help students understand better.
