Cold Weather Information: Using the Canadian Pediatric Society guidelines, we will keep the children indoors if the temperature falls below –25C or if the wind-chill is –27C or greater.
Re-enrollment Form for 2022-23:The deadline to submit the re-enrollment form and payment is Friday, February 4. To secure your son’s enrollment for the 2022-2023 academic year, please check off the appropriate box on the form and return the form and payment by mail, or leave at reception addressed to Ms. Debbie Dragone in the Business Office. It is crucial for the school’s planning that we have accurate and complete re-registration figures. The re-enrollment fee secures your son’s place for next year.
March Break Camps: This year we are offering camps for students over the March break, Please click here for more details. Please note that these camps must adhere to all COVID protocols set at that time.
Lunar New Year: Selwyn House will be celebrating Lunar New Year this year in all three schools, and, during assemblies, students will be presenting facts and stories about the significance of the holiday in their family. We also have wonderful parent volunteers who will be decorating the school for the occasion. Guo Nian Hao! Hu Nian Da Ji!
Community Engagement - “True to others” Bread and Beyond: Bread and Beyond needs your help! Are you looking for volunteer opportunities to do as a family? Why not make sandwiches to support local organizations who serve Montreal’s homeless population. It’s cold out there and our community needs our support. Click here for more information. Attendance: In the event your son is absent (or late), be it Covid related or not, please inform Ms. Manal (the more information we have the better).
At-School Rapid Test: If your son’s symptoms start during the school day and we have received your consent form, we will contact you to confirm if you would like a test done at school. If you have not already filled in a consent form, it can be found here.
No Drop-Offs please: Parents are asked not to drop off items for their sons. Students need to remember to pack what they need for the day in their backpacks. We are trying to limit movement of ES students in the school.
School-Home Communication: Please understand that it is very difficult for teachers to facilitate in-person and at-home learners. As such, we will do the best we can to offer meaningful experiences for both in-person and at-home learners. Teachers will determine the appropriate type of support based on various factors such as subject, activity, lesson topic, grade level, etc.
Travel Outside Canada: Please note that no matter how short the travel outside Canada may be or the mode of transportation, unvaccinated children 12 years of age and under must follow the Canadian Government Travel Protocols, which states that while children 12 and under do not need to stay in full isolation they MUST NOT attend school for 14 days upon return to Canada. For more information please visit, COVID-19: For unvaccinated children under 12 without symptoms and travelling with fully vaccinated parents or guardians for information regarding travel outside of Canada. Please scroll down and pay special attention to the section titled “What your child cannot do for the next 14 days” for particulars on his return to school after travel.
Proof of Vaccination: If you have decided to vaccinate your son, we would appreciate it if you send in his proof of vaccination once he is considered adequately vaccinated (Ms. Manal (manalm@selwyn.ca).
Covid-19 Positive Results: Please let Ms. Manal know if your son(s) test positive for Covid. If a child has tested positive for Covid over the holidays and parents have not already done so, kindly let Ms. Manal know (manalm@selwyn.ca).
Reporting Positive Covid Cases in our school: Prior to January 2022, all schools were required to report positive COVID cases to Public Health. Public Health would then outline for the school what protocols to follow on a case-by-case basis. At Selwyn House, we communicated all positive COVID cases to our entire school community. As of January 2022, Public Health is no longer involved when there are positive COVID cases in the school. However, the administration is keeping track of all COVID-related absences. In an effort to continue to be completely transparent, we will list the number of COVID positive cases per class in this section starting January 28. It will be updated weekly on Friday afternoons (unless there is a school holiday).
Management of cases and outbreaks: As the public health authorities are no longer carrying out epidemiological studies, they will not order the closure of classes or schools. However, if at least 60% of the students in the class are in isolation using the isolation criteria for COVID-19 set out by the public health authorities, a school service centre, a school board or a private educational institution can transition a class to distance education, but only two calendar days after reaching this percentage. In such cases, written notification must be sent to parents at least 24 hours before transitioning to distance education. Additionally, if there is a lack of staff, once the educational institution has implemented all the measures in its contingency plan and can no longer ensure that an education stakeholder will be present in class, a class may transition to distance learning.
