A Revere High School Community Newsletter
Sunday October 9th, 2022
Volume 1, Issue 1
Happy Sunday, Patriots!
The Patriot Update is a weekly newsletter to the RHS Community that will be available every Sunday. Administrators, teachers, students and community members will all contribute to the content. This platform will give all members of the RHS Community an Update on the week ahead. It will also let us spotlight some of the great things going on at RHS every day. We hope you enjoy reading. If you have ideas or suggestions of what should be included, please e-mail me. Have a great week!
Christopher T. Bowen, Principal
The Week Ahead: October 11th-14th
- Come support fellow RHS Patriots on the field at upcoming Athletic Events
- On Wednesday 10/12 the PSAT will be administered to Sophomores and Juniors at RHS. Testing students should bring a calculator! This day is a regular class day for Freshmen. On this day, all Seniors will engage in alternate academic and enrichment assignments. All assignments will take place outside of the school building. Seniors have received an email with instructions to register their plan for the day. Please direct any questions to your Assistant Principal.
- RHS Guidance Department will host a College Fair during Advisory on Thursday 10/13 for Juniors and Seniors. Students should check into their advisory for attendance and then report to the cafeteria. The next one will be on Thursday 10/27. Students should join the RHS Opportunities Google Classroom to get updates on these events.
- RHS Student Activities are up and running! The document shows you which clubs meet on which days, and who to contact for information. Find a club or activity you want to join. There is a lot going on at RHS!
Did you know RHS has it's own student run newspaper, The RHS Patriot Voice? Students take the Journalism class with Ms. Walford and work as staff members of The RHS Patriot Voice. They oversee the production of our school newspaper website (rhspatriotvoice.org) and The Weekly
Voice. As a project-based course, students choose how they will contribute as an RHS student journalist. Options include article writing, journalistic photography, podcasts, infographic writing, interviewing, polling and much more. Ultimately, students learn about and practice how to be responsible reporters in this digital, multimedia age. Check out some of their recent articles and watch last Friday's Weekly Voice. The Patriots' Update will feature their video each week.
Bullying, Harassment and Bias Reporting
Bullying, Harassment and Bias Reporting
Did you know you can use this link to make a report of bullying, harassment or bias? Anyone - student, guardian, friend, or educator - can always reach out to a trusted adult if you are supporting someone through this kind of situation. One goal of our leadership team is to make sure everyone knows what to do in these situations. That begins with making sure everyone knows how to report situations that you think are bullying, harassment or bias. We will find ways in the coming months to engage with students about these terms and how they go about reporting. If you have ideas, please reach out to your assistant principal.
On Wednesday, 10/5/2022, RHS JROTC color guard presented colors at TD Garden for the preseason game between the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics! On jumbotron and push-ups at center court! Always REPRESENT!
Over the past several weeks they have been asked to present the colors all over - at Revere High Football Games, for the Red Sox at Fenway Park and for the Celtics at the Garden! What a great experience for our cadets!
RHS by the Numbers
The table in this section shows a great increase in the number of students completing Advanced Coursework (Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment ) at Revere High. You will see that the 2019 data is the last set available "before Covid-19," so it is an interesting comparison. It is also exciting to see how many more students from all backgrounds are taking advanced coursework, compared to what was the case in 2019.
This is great work from the entire RHS team as a whole, but I would like to shout out a few groups:
- Shout-out to our teachers for encouraging and supporting students as they take on advanced coursework
- Shout-out to our External Learning Opportunity Guidance Counselors for coordinating college classroom experiences for our students
- Shout-out to our students for stepping up to challenge themselves!
