"Tuesday" Message
2/20/18
Morning Welcome Committee
ASB students greeted arriving students with smiles and treats last week.
Our wonderful MEA families are appreciated!
Forty-Niners Skit
Below is a skit that a few of Ms. Rice's history students put together. They played the Forty-Niners from the 1849 gold rush period. The skit showed why they moved west, the challenges they faced along their way, and what legacies they left behind.
Canyon Villas Visit
Last Friday, February 16th, some Mt. Everest families enjoyed a visit at Canyon Villas. At Canyon Villas there are about 100 residents who are in assisted care and 20 who are enjoying being in independent living apartments at the facility. We had a fun time playing Jingo, a form of bingo-the great cities of the United States version. It was somewhat like bingo but with a trivia flair where you had to figure out cities by trivia clues. You knew we had to make it educational somehow, yes? It was a lot of fun, we learned some things and met some new friends. We all look forward to visiting again so keep an eye on our Monday Message for our next date~!

California Scholarship Federation, Inc. Workshop
Thursday, February 22 / 12:00-12:30 / Cafeteria
The California Scholarship Federation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service among middle and high school students in California. There are approximately 1500 chapters in middle school and high schools throughout the state, and each chapter is comprised of student members who meet eligibility requirements. Each chapter is led by a staff adviser.
Eligible students become members by submitting applications based on their report card grades. Membership is for one semester, and membership drives are held each semester within established periods dictated by the State bylaws.
Conferences are held annually, and student awards recognizing scholastic achievement and community service are presented. Students with a certain number of semesters of membership in CSF will also be able to graduate with a sash and/or cord, and put it on their college resumes/ applications!
I am happy to announce that I will be bringing CSF to MEA! As last week marked the closing of our first semester, and grades will be finalized soon, please contact Mr. Zappala to check your eligibility with your transcript. Once you are confirmed to be eligible, Mr. Zappala and I both have sheets to be filled out for membership.
We are hosting a brief workshop next Thursday (2/22) at lunch time (12-12:30 pm) explaining more about CSF, membership requirements, and any other questions you might have! Pizza and some light refreshments will be provided, so don’t miss out!!
Looking forward to what this semester has in store!
