THEME THURSDAY
Our Theme Thursday kick-off was a great success! I personally enjoyed seeing so many of our teachers and students participating. We lead by example. We are creating a school culture that values kindness, tolerance, effort and collaboration. Dressing up alone does not make a difference, but the common language and sense of community do! It also starts up important conversations about those values. Thanks to the students who participated!
The Theme Thursday for the 1st semester is found here. It will also be posted on our website on the daily/weekly calendar.
COMMUNICATION
In efforts to keep you well informed, I invite you to join our communication outlets. You can text the code @jwlongelem to the number 81010 to subscribe to our campus Remind thread. This is how I as the principal communicate directly with parents to give updates, reminders, and special notices. (These messages can be translated to your language of choice through the Remind app. Click here to access the app.)
Speaking of sharing, you can also follow our school on Twitter @JWLTigers or follow the district @TerrelIISD look for our tag #TigerPride to see the amazing things happening at our school or across Terrell ISD.
MS. REED'S CORNER
Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year. I'm looking forward to watching your child grow and learn throughout the year. Getting back into the swing of things when school starts can be difficult after enjoying the long days of summer. This in turn can create power struggles at home. Enforceable statements from Love & Logic can be helpful in changing the perspective of our statements as adults. These statements "tell kids what WE will do or allow rather than trying to tell THEM what to do." Here are some examples of enforceable statements.
I'd also like to invite parents to join my Remind. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Please remember that I will set office hours for Remind. If I receive a message outside of those hours, I will follow up with you the following day. I look forward to working with you and your child this year.

Attendance
Please partner with us in making sure students are attending school. We want them here! Our campus goal is 98% attendance each day.
Tardies and early pickups are counted towards absences as well. Understanding that there might be extenuating circumstances, please know that the cut off time to pick up your child early is 3:00 pm. The person signing out students must have their picture ID and have right to transport permission granted in our student database.
When students miss 5 instructional days, a letter will be issued explaining potential loss of credit. When students accumulate 3 or more unexcused absences in a 4 week period, a parent conference will be scheduled to discuss truancy prevention measures. Parents, also please know that parent notes are limited to 3 notes per year to excuse absences; all absence notes must be submitted to the office within 3 days of the absence.
Dismissal
No parents are to walk up to the doors of the building. Walkers will be escorted to their respective areas by staff members.
Lunch Visits
Please inform your teacher through Remind of any changes in your child's lunch arrangements.
Thank you for your support and understanding!
