FUTURE SCHOOL START TIME FAMILY SURVEY
Columbus City Schools recently unveiled The Power of One, the District’s five-year strategic plan, and introduced a roadmap that clearly defines our vision of success and the roles we all play in our school communities. Our collective commitment to nurturing the whole child will allow us to create equitable learning opportunities and address all students’ physical, mental, emotional, and social needs.
As we look at immediate next steps and strategies, CCS is exploring future school start times for elementary and secondary schools. Now through April 3, 2022, the District is collecting feedback from students, families, staff, and community partners.
A special task force has been set up to explore these options, and recommendations will be presented to Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon at the end of May, 2022.
Research shows school start times play a vital role in classroom performance, mental health, and emotional well-being. By addressing start times across the District, CCS has an opportunity to advance instructional practices and social-emotional learning.
We recognize a potential change in start times will impact our families, our staff and community partners. The District does not take this decision lightly but believes it may best serve Columbus City Schools students today and in the future.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Ramadan 2022: SUPPORTING OU STUDENTS AND FAMILIES
The month of Ramadan, a month of fasting for Muslims all around the world is quickly approaching. This year, Ramadan begins at sundown on Saturday, April 2nd and ends with the Holiday Eid al-Fitr at sundown on Monday, May 2nd. Participants are required to fast during this month, including avoiding all food and drink between dawn and sunset each day.
Despite the physical challenges, Ramadan is a time of joy, spiritual fulfillment, generosity, and greater God-consciousness for Muslims.
How we can support students and staff during Ramadan:
- Providing a location for fasting students and staff to pray during lunch break and to avoid the cafeteria
- Avoid food-centric class events
- Reduce potentially dangerous physical activity
- Keep an eye out for students and staff that might need additional support
- Have a classroom lesson about Ramadan traditions and Islam
The month of Ramadan concludes with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. This celebration begins at sundown on Monday, May 2nd and ends at sundown Tuesday, May 3rd.
It is acceptable and welcome to wish participants "Ramadan Kareem" (Have a generous Ramadan) and "Eid Mubarak" (Happy Eid) during this time.
