Food for Thought
Principal's Weekly Communication -Week of March 7th
PBIS
Our PBIS Team has completed the following tasks set forth from the beginning of the year checklist shared with staff:
- Develop a purpose statement
- Establish a monthly PBIS Leadership team and meet schedule for the school year
- Define Staff vs Administrator managed behaviors (Define them)
- Develop behavior Matrix
We are currently working on:
- Developing PBIS Flowchart
- Developing plans and procedures for encouraging and discouraging behaviors.
Updates from our District PBIS Team: The District team organized for reps at each building to attend a Universal Tier 1 training. The team is working on a district wide implementation plan for the 2016-2017 school year. April Early Release Day will be for buildings to work on PBIS matters.
School Improvement Planning Through Rising Star
Our focus of differentiation will be on three tiers of an assignments during Core Instruction. We are using one task to tier for this school year and utilizing March and April staff meetings to share out and reflect on the tier activity. Collaborating with our colleagues will help us all have a big picture of what is going on across the building and give each other ideas to implement in the classroom.
Educator Quality: ID13 Instructional teams meet for blocks of time sufficient to develop and refine units of instruction and review student learning data.
Teaching and Learning: IIB04 Teachers differentiate instruction based on assessment results to provide support for some students and enhance learning opportunities for others.
Learning Environment: CL8 The school culture supports teachers in practicing effective and responsive instruction to meet individual student needs.
How Do I Fit It All In During Literacy Time?
Many of you have said you were not sure how to fit everything into Literacy? I encourage all of you to review this plan and reflect on your current literacy plan to see how this aligns to what you are doing. Jenni A. is willing to collaborate with you to help support you through this to make it a reality if you are identifying this as a need.

- I feel very lucky to work with such caring people! We have a great staff here at Husmann, we're more than just co-workers, we're friends, too. I hear it all the time, from substitutes, the district maintenance men, even the mail man; people like coming to our building. I think we give off a friendly vibe that people really notice and appreciate. So thanks, fellow Husmann staff for making this a fun environment to come to every day ! Joy Burney
I am blessed with colleagues who work together as a team, who have a sense of humor, and who go the extra mile to design and teach fantastic challenging lessons. You really bring learning ALIVE for students because you know our students!-Mary Alice Howe
To Belke! For taking care of the social emotional needs of our students!-KZ
I feel lucky that Luis, Mike and Richard are so friendly and helpful, especially with all the times I need the risers set up for rehearsals and concerts. Thank you!!
Husmann School Rocks because everyone who works here is like family. It's awesome that we all socialize with each other as well as share educational ideas. It makes me happy to work in our fabulous building every day with great administrators and colleagues.-JN
Laura Moore rocks for being flexible and saving the day when we needed a sub in a classroom for an unexpected absence. She swooped in and took charge of the classroom. Thanks to Laura for helping out a colleague. -Karen Belke
