Advice To Leaders: Remember to take a step back in the midst of the fires and take the opportunity to breathe, process, while looking to the future. Create balance in your life between work, life, family, and your own learning. By leading and protecting that balance, you model that for your staff, who begin to follow suit providing a healthier and more productive environment for everyone.

Outlook Board Shared Calendars
HOS should have received and invite to their Outlook Regional Shared Calendar from Mike Kazek. This calendar allows for HOS to post their board or partner board meetings (if applicable) and to add agenda items as they are developed. The calendar meeting can be edited, moved or deleted as changes take place. The purpose of the calendar is to share it with the K12 Executive and Regional teams for ease in finding board meetings throughout the year and to support the schools if requested. Please add your board meetings as soon as possible. If you are have any questions or issues please contact Mike Kazek at mkazek@k12.com or 702-666-8720.

Leadership Academy #3: Explore "U"! August 21, 2015
Overview
YOU are the focus of Leadership Academy #1 entitled, Explore "U". Throughout the first seven weeks we will focus on your strengths as indicated in the Myers-Briggs assessment most of you took in January, 2015. Throughout the cycle you will build upon your strengths and learn to leverage those strengths to minimize weaknesses.
Week 3 of Explore “U” Leadership Academy cycle focuses on your 140 character strengths based Leadership Mantra. You will share your mantra in small teams of 4. Your team provides suggestions for how you can make your mantra stronger. You will provide the same feedback to others on their mantra.
Questions others may ask you about your Leadership Mantra:
QUESTIONS FOR FOCUSING ATTENTION
· What’s important to you about this mantra?
· What draws you to this mantra?
· Why is this mantra really worthy of our best effort?
· What aspects of who you are didn’t get captured in this mantra?
· What would key stakeholders in your school (AA’s, teachers, board members, parents, students, etc.) about this mantra?
QUESTIONS FOR CONNECTING IDEAS AND FINDING DEEPER INSIGHT
· What’s taking shape? What are you hearing underneath the variety of opinions being expressed?
· What’s emerging here for you? What new connections are you making?
· What had real meaning for you from what you’ve heard? What surprised you? What challenged you?
· What’s missing from this picture so far? What is it we’re not seeing? What do we need more clarity about?
· What’s been your/our major learning, insight, or discovery so far?
· What’s the next level of thinking we need to do?
· If there was one thing that hasn’t yet been said in order to take this to the next level, what would that be?
QUESTIONS THAT CREATE FORWARD MOVEMENT
· What changes would you like to create to make this stronger?
· What could happen that would enable you to feel fully engaged and energized about your mantra?
· What needs our immediate attention going forward?
· If our success was completely guaranteed, what bold steps might we choose?
· If you lived out this mantra, what challenges might come your way and how might you meet them?
Leadership Project
You will have a short but meaningful leadership project for Explore 'U". The first project focuses on your strengths-based leadership mantra. In 140 characters or less, you will sum up who you are as a leader with an emphasis on your unique strengths. Choose keywords from your MBTI inventory to build your leadership mantra. An example mantra is:
- I influence uniquely brilliant people through infectious enthusiasm, grounded in ingenuity, and powered by true grit.
We will share this mantra with the small group during Week 3 and then again with a larger group during Week 6. The goal of this project is for each HOS to have a "tweetable"-sized mantra that sums up who you are as a leader. Feel free to take this project to the next level and make your mantra come alive! (i.e. iMOVIE, Prezi, Infographic, etc).
Meyers Briggs Profile
Important: If you do not remember your Meyers Briggs profile, please reach out to Tom DiGiovanni and he will share that information.

2015-2016 Leadership Standards and Practices
Leadership Academy #1- "Explore U": YOU are the focus of Leadership Academy #1 entitled, Explore "U". Throughout the first seven weeks we will focus on your strengths as indicated in the Myers-Briggs assessment most of you took in January, 2015. Throughout the cycle you will build upon your strengths and learn to leverage those strengths to minimize weaknesses.
Leadership Academy #2- "Build It and They Will Come": Your knowledge and expertise will be leveraged to build out content for one of the leadership strands. Each School leader chooses one standard to work with over the course of the 7 week cycle. The goal will be to codify your expertise within the leadership strand to build a complete leadership Academy cycle in your area chosen area.
Leadership Academies #3-5-: Once the content is built, you will choose one strand to focus on for the remaining cycles. Choice is built into the process and we would like you to choose two standards. We suggest you work with your RVP/DRVP to choose one leadership strand that you would like additional support in. The strands include: Strategic Leadership, Instructional Leadership, Community, Human Resources, and Organizational Management.
