LOST & FOUND
The pile of clothes stacking up from items that have been left outside during recess or forgotten in the lunchroom, outside the classroom, etc. is growing even larger. Please ask your child to stop by the lost and found table (outside the bathrooms by the gym) to check if they are missing any items. It really helps if we can keep this pile to a small mountain! Thanks for your help!
YOUNG AUTHORS CONTEST
Here’s a wonderful opportunity for talented writers. Students in grades three through five are encouraged to enter the YOUNG AUTHORS CONTEST, which is sponsored by the Gifted and Talented Department. All classroom teachers have information about how to enter the contest, and deadline dates.
There are four categories to enter, and two winners at each grade level in each category will be selected and invited to attend a Young Authors Conference, which is a day-long conference held at the University of Wisconsin, Sauk County/ Baraboo Campus.
The deadline for submitting entries for district judging is January 31, so students wishing to enter should make sure their entries are turned in to their classroom teacher by January 26.
COUNSELOR CONNECTION
Counselor Connection
Third graders will be learning the difference between good teasing and bad teasing. We will be talking about the power of words. Words can be used to express our feelings and thoughts, words can be used to hurt others, and words can be used to solve problems.
Students in 4th and 5th grade will be learning the importance of creating a safe and respectful learning environment by participating in Act Now!, a Healthykidslearnmore.com e-learning program. Act Now! was created by education experts at the Children’s Health Education Center, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and takes a new, technological approach to tackling one of our schools’ most troubling issues, bullying.
When the 4th graders finish their unit on bullying, School Resource Officer, Joel Ludowicz, will be using the Healthykidslearnmore.com e-learning program It’s UR Choice to talk with them about substance use.

Ponder Parenting
· Constant stimulation of your children’s senses creates insensitivity. They see so much they become blind. They hear so much they become deaf. They taste so much they become nauseated. They desire so much they become forever unsatisfied. They are accustomed to the barrage of noise and will complain loudly in its absence. But you can find a quiet way. What can you do today? A walk? A book? A simple game?
E-mail Miss Sadie if you have thoughts or questions about how to accomplish this task.
INJURY/ACCIDENT FORMS
AFTERSCHOOL TRANSPORTATION
If your child will have a change regarding someone picking them up, they are biking or walking home, the information can be sent in on a separate note or put in their assignment notebook. We do not need the dismissal change/bus request form filled out for these changes.
If you have questions, please contact the office. Thank you.

On days when school is closed, those employees who work when students are in attendance (teachers, aides, etc.) will not be expected to report. Twelve-month employees and administrators will be expected to report as soon as possible.
If a school is closed for reasons other than weather, the day may not be made up. If this is the case, that would be included in the announcement of the closing and teachers would possibly be asked to report to another school for the day. Examples of this type of closing might be by the health official or because of lack of heat or light in the school.

MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
For example, if your child suffers from migraine headaches, we will NOT be able to distribute medication to him/her without an AMA on file. The AMA form can be found on the District web site. In order for medications to be distributed, pills must be in a prescription bottle with proper labeling. Students may carry inhalers with them, however, an AMA form must be on file in the office.
If you have any questions regarding medication distribution, please contact Laura Cody, RN for the district at 643-5509.
