Highlight of the Week
We joined millions of students and teachers in over 180 countries and in 45 languages with Hour of Code Week! The students loved learning about code and programming. The goal is to bring awareness to computer science. Computer science drives innovation throughout the US economy, but it remains marginalized throughout K-12 education.
Only 33 states allow students to count computer science courses toward high school graduation. There are currently 517,393 open computing jobs nationwide.
Last year, only 42,969 computer science students graduated into the workforce. Through one of the many apps, programs, Flash, Dash, Ozobots or Osmo: hopefully, we ignited a passion in some of our students!

Sh....It's A Secret!
Hopefully you received your child's letter to Santa. I sent it home sealed so I hope it got to you that way and that we did not have a breach of security. Please type a response to your child from Santa, print on the stationary paper provided and send it back to me in the envelope provided (NOT folded) by Monday, December 18th. We ask that you use size 14 Comic Sans MS font and your response must be only one page. Please keep the original letter. I do not need the letter to Santa back. The letters will be delivered and passed out during our class holiday party on December 20th. This activity always tends to create great excitement and happiness during the party. Thank you so much for taking the time to make a magical memory for your child!
***Please send back in this envelope and SEAL IT!***

GT Corner
We recently located the article below, which discusses the longest-running study of genius kids and what it takes to be highly successful. A few highlights we noted was the importance of developing cognitive abilities early as well as "nurturing precocious children" starting at a young age. It makes the work we do even more important. We hope you find value in this article:
LEAD With GCISD
This week, we participated in Hour of Code to recognize Computer Science Education Week. Although we code on a regular basis in ASPIRE 5, we were able to do a few special things, such as participate in a "Coding Petting Zoo" with new items we hadn't yet explored as well as video chat with game developer and Michigan State professor, Jeremy Bond. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. To see Hour of Code throughout the district, please click the link below:
