#Makerfaire-ing Breakfast
Making TPAK sticky. Literally.
Monday, Day 4, was my day to be content curator. Thanks for setting the bar so high, Taylor! See David's curation for another view of this awesome day!
Breakfast, a la some pretty interesting modes.
Our scrumptious morning quickefire was to make breakfast, with a twist. One member of each group grabbed a random container and tool. THEN we chose a sticky telling us what to make. We had a pitcher and whisk, and had to make whipped cream. Easy enough. Why was everyone else in uproar? Make fruit salad with a garlic press? Make a parfait with tongs? Make bread, butter and jam with a meat tenderizer? Sure, we quickly learn the lesson that using the right tool helps; but we learned a better lesson: With a little creativity, you can repurpose the tools you have.
Repurposing means rethinking the steps.
Taylor and Hayley decided that if you have to spread butter with a tenderizer, the first step may change from "use the knife to spread the butter" to "use the tenderizer to soften the butter enough to smear it".
Repurposing means anything can be a tool.
No tenderizer to pulverize your granola bars? Rosie, Becky and Donna smashed them on the desk, instead, and stirred the yogurt with the tongs.
Repurposing means looking for the tools within the tool.
Apparently, you can dismantle a garlic press and find some good cutting edges on the parts. Erin, David, and Alan were peeling kiwis like sous chefs.
These were the tools we didn't choose. Like a knife. D'uh! But it all worked out in the end.
TPAK really stuck
The quickefire really drove home the "T" for technology in TPAC. In this video, Punya Mishra and Matt Koehler explained the complete TPAC model for us.

After lunch (which we didn't have to make), we played the TPAK game for deeper understanding.
Making makers
In our self-chosen groups we began to plan our maker faire activities. it looks like we are going to have some great projects!
Step right up!
A flurry of simultaneous signing up followed, as we each chose our day and technology for a five minute tech talk. We are all looking forward to Hayley's presentation on "SOMETHING BETTER THAN YOURS".
Then stand on one foot and bend over.
Mary introduced us to Go Noodle brain breaks, and we tried being flamingos. Not bad for a mid-afternoon break!
You expect me to think, now?
We rounded out the day with reflection and writing time as we prepared our blog posts of the breakfast activity. I have read all the blogs, and the common themes seem to be the use of technology, choosing tools, and repurposing tools. Oh, and that it was a lot of fun.
