PRAIRIE POST
June 5, 2020
Message from the Principal
Hello Prairie Families and Friends,
Wasn't that parade fun?! Our team was thrilled to get to see you waving and smiling today! We miss you all so much. Thank you for making all of the thoughtful signs!
This week and next week teachers are meeting with their incoming students in community circles. This way our learners will get to see the group of teachers they will have when we start up again in the fall for the 20-21 school year. We do not know what next fall will look like yet, but we can assure you that student safety and learning will be our top priorities. I will be meeting with our teachers throughout the summer to consider what type of teaching structure (team teaching, specializing, traditional) is going to best meet the needs of each group of learners. You will receive more information about what school will look like this fall, along with the teaching structure for the grade level, and classroom teacher assignments toward the end of summer. Thank you for your patience as we carefully consider how we will best set all of our learners up for success!
Webex Teams will shut down for all students on Wednesday, June 10th. Report cards will be posted in Infinite Campus on Thursday, June 11th. Due to the COVID-19 school closures, the focus for reporting in the 3rd Trimester will be on giving specific feedback to your child. Therefore, this trimester 3 progress report will only include narrative comments. Grade-level benchmarks will not be scored on the report card in Infinite Campus. This is the same for all elementary schools in the School District of Waukesha.
For those of you with students who will be in 4K next year, please join us for 4K Virtual Meet & Greet on Monday at 10:00am or 6:30pm. Mrs. Lorenz, Mrs. Ehret and I will be sharing information about Prairie and specifically about 4K. Mrs. Anderson emailed incoming 4K families additional information on Thursday. If you have any questions about this event, please reach out.
Next week we will close out the year with the fifth-grade clap out. All fifth-grade students and families are invited to join us for the clap out starting at 3:00pm on Tuesday, June 9th. Our team of Prairie educators will be lined up in the drive-through in front of the school. Families will be able to drive through while teachers clap and cheer our fifth-grade learners off to middle school. Fifth-grade students and families, please make arrangements to join us for this celebration!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Stay safe,
Carly Solberg

Social Emotional Learning
This past week was our last full week of school. We can't believe how fast it's gone by in this virtual world! Social-emotional learning has continued to be a priority throughout this time period, and we're hopeful students were able to apply some of the strategies to their daily life. This past week we focused on setting goals and looking forward to summer, in terms of our mental health. We talked about some of the challenges associated with summer and things we can do to stay busy and take care of ourselves. We discussed various activities that can promote strong mental health, while enjoying the time off. Students were encouraged to establish a summer goal around their mental health and reflect on their own emotional well-being throughout the summer.
