“Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I may always be holy!” St. Augustine
The holy season of Advent will soon be upon us. Here at school, each week will begin with a special Advent prayer service by our 6th Grade class. Thank you, 6th Grade, Ms. Allen, and Mrs. Rackers for leading us into the holiness of this season.
Absolutely Advent booklets have been distributed to the students (Gr. 2-8) to be used in the classroom and at home. Many thanks to our home and school association for purchasing these books for our students. Teachers value this resource and feel that students gain much from using these little books.
ITBS scores. In October the students in Grades 3-8 took the battery of tests known as the Iowa Assessments. Individual student scores have been sent home. The overall results for our school are quite remarkable! Each grade level, Grade 3-8, not only achieved the expected grade level score, but each grade also scored above the diocesan average! St. Stanislaus School was one of three schools in the diocese (out of 37) that achieved this level of accomplishment. As a school community we should be proud of this level of academic achievement. This is only achieved through the hard work of students, dedicated parents, and excellent teachers. Congratulations on a job well done!
Early Dismissal on Friday, Nov. 30th, 11:30 a.m. Hopefully by now you have received word that St. Stanislaus School will be releasing early this Friday, Nov. 30th. The Blair Oaks Falcons will be playing the state football championship game in Columbia Friday afternoon. The early release is needed so that enough time would be available to run the after school bus routes and have the busses ready to go to the game. Dr. Jones, Superintendent of Blair Oaks School District, consulted with the three Catholic principals to see how an early release would affect each school. It was decided that we could support this early release. The After School Care program was able to find enough individuals to supervise the program from 11:30 to 5:30. I wish to thank the many parents, volunteers, and teachers who were willing to make this work for us. In addition, I wish to thank Karen Clogston and the cafeteria staff for their willingness to make adjustments to the lunch schedule. To our Blair Oaks neighbors we say, Good luck Falcons!
Christmas Concert is coming! The students look forward to sharing their holiday spirit with you on Thursday, Dec. 6. There are two concerts: 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Dress code for the 1:30 performance is the school uniform. Dress code for the evening performance is tan pants (school pants will work) and white shirts (school shirts may be worn) and holiday accents: holiday scarves, Santa hats, ribbons, etc. Avoid those items that would be distracting or block the vision of students i.e. tall holiday hats, blinking lights, musical accents.
After the concert, students are expected to return to their classrooms for the last 30 minutes of the school day. In past years, some students wanted to leave with grandparents or other guests right after the concert. (Believe me, as a grandparent I know it is difficult to say “no” to that adorable face!) Students may leave with guests after the concert with written consent from parents. In an effort to be proactive and avoid the chaos that we have seen in the past, a permission form is being sent home with each student today. Parents will need to sign a written permission form for the student to leave early with a guest after the 1:30 concert on Dec. 6. This signed form gives the school permission to release the child to someone other than parents before the end of the school day. Our hope is that the process will be more orderly and children will understand ahead of time what their dismissal procedure will be for that day. Signed permission slips need to be returned to the classroom teacher by Wed. Dec. 5.
