Rising 6th Graders' Edition
Get Ready for Middle School!
Greetings to you, rising 6th graders and parents! We are excited that you will soon be a member of the Miller Grove Middle School family. Unfortunately, we were not able to see your faces for the feeder school visits and parent meetings; however, we want you to know that the MG Counselors look forward to welcoming the new class of 6th graders! We know that transitioning to middle school can be somewhat nerve wrecking. So, this newsletter will provide a few tips to assist in making a smooth transition. It is our hope that you have a great summer and that you take a little time to prepare for entering this new phase of life called Middle School. We are here to help you!
Daily Schedule
- 8:50 a.m. - 3:50 p.m.
All students receive FREE lunch
- 7 Classes (6 per day)
- Team Concept (students are placed randomly)
Lockers
- Students will be assigned a locker during the first few weeks of school.
- There is no cost for lockers.
- Students do not need a lock.
- Book bags must be in lockers.
- Do NOT share combinations and do NOT share lockers.
Attendance
- Students must have a note upon returning to school.
- Excused Absence = Makeup Work
- Parents may request work if the student is absent 3 or more days.

- 6th graders CAN be a sport's manager.
- 6th graders CAN be in the band and chorus.

Middle School Survival Tips
- Advocate for yourself.
- Ask for help.
- Get to know your counselor, teachers and administrators in a positive way.
- Choose friends wisely.
- Review and follow school rules and expectations.
- Know and understand the bullying policy.
- Explore extracurricular activities and choose at least one.
- Communicate with school staff about concerns while at school.
- Communicate with parents about school concerns while at home.
- Make good choices.
- Stay out of drama.
- Monitor grades weekly through Infinite Campus.
- Parents should contact the school if there's a concern.
Summer Preparation
- Practice and learn to open a combination lock.
- Get an agenda planner to write down assignments daily.
- Gather basic supplies: pens, pencils, notebook paper, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, colored pencils, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, and bookbag (teachers will provide any specific supplies required on the syllabus).
- Practice Math, Reading and Writing.
- Exercise
- Do something fun and relaxing.
