Dr. Irwin has been studying the eastern grey bamboo lemur (Hapalemur griseus). This lemur's diet is mostly bamboo that contains cyanide, which makes the lemur poisonous to humans. Next year, he will also study the brown lemur (Eulemur fulvus), who is a true frugivore - mostly eating ripe fruit.
This trip is open to advanced undergraduate students. The next trip will be in June 2017. Applications will be available in Spring.
Prerequisite courses:
ANTH 240-Introduction to Physical Anthropology, or
ENVS 301, or
Introduction to Biology courses.
Green Office Initiative
An Information Session with speakers from offices going through the program and the students involved in restructuring the process will be held Tuesday, November 17th from noon to 1:00 p.m in the HSC Illinois Room.
Volunteers are also needed to help with the program next semester.
If your office is interested in participating in this program or you would like to volunteer, please contact Kayi Lawson, Marketing Associate, at klawson2@niu.edu.
GREEN LIVING COMMUNITY GOING TO MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY
The students on this floor have gone to the Museum of Science and Industry, learned about local food while enjoying pumpkin pie (Illinois is the largest producer of pumpkins in the US), and will be making their own air fresheners to keep their rooms smelling fresh all winter.
