Music Notes
Over 120 musicians put on two fabulous shows on Friday, May 4th for the Tawanka students and on Monday, May 7th for the families and the community in the evening. The orchestra, chorus and band’s hard work paid off as their performance had people in the audience humming and smiling. Congratulations Tawanka musicians on a job well done!

Kindergarten
The Animals Come Marching One by One: Kindergarten News!
The boys and girls in kindergarten at Tawanka had their Field Trip come to them! It was as a visit by Jungle Joe who shared his vast knowledge and wisdom about animals. He explained the importance of treating animals with respect and giving them the proper care that each kind of animal needs. Best of all, he held up and showed us animals of every kind: a tortoise, a macaw, reptiles, a wallaby, and many more!
Imagine…We didn’t have to go out in the rain or on a boat to visit the rainforest and Galapagos Islands!
Thank you, PTO, for making this incredible event happen!
First Grade
First grade was excited to finally attend the play “Charlotte’s Web” at the Keswick Theater on May 7. This field trip had been re-scheduled from March due to a snow storm. Ask any first-grader, and they will tell you that it was worth the wait. The children had a wonderful time, and enjoyed comparing the play to the book.
Mrs. Wendling's students and Mrs. Rydzewski's students participated in an Authors' Share. They wrote special books. The special people in their lives to came to school and listened to the authors read their books. What an accomplishment!
Second Grade
Second Grade has had a very busy month. We donated $180.00 to help end childhood poverty through the Red Nose Day Charity event. Second graders had a great day celebrating our success with our Red Nose Day Rally. We dressed in red “from our nose to our toes”, and played a few fun games in our pod. Our Superkid friend, Cass, even got in on the fun and took some pictures with us since she was visiting us that day! Thank you to all of our families that helped us raise money and awareness for this cause.
Third Grade
The third graders had a busy month of May. They presented their Wax Museum projects to both the students of Tawanka and their parents at two separate shows. Then, they showed great sportsmanship and athleticism at a very muddy field day! Finally, they wrapped up the month with a trip to the Philadelphia Zoo where they were able to observe the gorillas like Ivan, in the novel they read called, The One and Only Ivan.
Fourth Grade
Mrs. Gartenmayer and Mrs. Ross worked together during the month to create a wonderful mother's day gift. The second graders got to come up to their fourth grade buddy class.
As the end of the year approaches, fourth grade has been wrapping up the year with field trips, middle school visits and the long awaited Move-up Day! Hold on to your hats, but not for too long because, Tawanka's fourth graders are on the move!
EarlyAct Club
Note from our Reading Specialist
Our Building Community Bridges event at the Township Library of Lower Southampton was a success! There were over two hundred attendees who participated in the scavenger hunt and games. There was face painting, portraits, balloon art, and more. It was awesome to see the students from the Early Act Club and teachers manning the events. Many of the parents gave positive comments and would certainly come to this event next year. This was a great opportunity for our school to interact with the local library.
