Happy Holidays from the Glocester libraries - the Harmony Library and the Glocester Manton Library!
Fundraisers
Wednesday, November 15 to December 14, library hours, Harmony Library
Three baskets will be raffled off to benefit the Harmony Library - a sports basket, a Christmas basket, and a family entertainment basket. Each one has a variety of great options including rounds of golf, tree trimmings, movie tickets, and games. Tickets are $1 for one and $5 for six.
Christmas Wreath Fundraiser
Monday, November 27 to Saturday, December 16, library hours, Glocester Manton Library
Hand decorated wreaths will be available for purchase during open hours at the library. Each wreath costs $20.
Holiday Book Bundles
Monday, November 27 to Saturday, December 23, library hours, Harmony Library and Glocester Manton Library
Are you looking for a special gift for a book lover? We have carefully selected and bound three books with a decorative holiday bow in many different genres including: mysteries, thrillers, biographies, fantasies, romances, and children books. Each genre bundle costs $5 and include hardcovers and paperbacks.
Special Events
Tuesday, December 12, 6 p.m., Glocester Manton LIbrary
Age Level: All Ages
Families are invited to create a gingerbread house masterpiece to take home for the holidays. Pictures will be taken of each project and posted in the library for viewing and voting. The winning family will win a Holiday Gift Basket. Each family is asked to bring at least one bag of small candies to be shared with all participating families for decorating. This contest is limited to 15 families.
Glocester Libraries Holiday Open House
Thursday, December 14, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
The libraries celebrate the candlelight season with sweet treats, hot cocoa, and crafts! Drop by during your Christmas shopping!
Children's Programs
Wednesdays through January 31, (no class – December 20 and 27), Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: 4-5 year olds
Spots are still available for this free class in the basics of ballet with a healthy mix of creative dance. This class is offered by the well-known Heritage Ballet of Lincoln.
Make It, Take It Crafts
December 1 - December 23, during library hours, Glocester Manton LIbrary
Age Level: 3 years old and up *Children under 5 years old may require parental assistance.
Children are invited to "drop in" to the Glocester Manton Children's Room during the month of December for fun holiday crafts they can make and take home. Crafts will be available during library hours and will rotate on a bimonthly schedule.
Hermie Scavenger Hunt
December 1 - December 23, during library hours, Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: All ages
The Children's Room staff of the Glocester Manton Library invite families to participate in a weekly "Hermie the Christmas Elf" Scavenger Hunt. The character, Hermie, comes from the children's film, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. Participants will be sent on a scavenger hunt to locate Hermie who will be hiding in a different place each week, by following hints listed on the entry form. Earn a different holiday treat each week while learning about the library. Note: Registration is not necessary for this program.
Emoji Christmas Ornaments
Wednesday, December 6, 4:30 p.m., Harmony LIbrary
Age Level: Grades 2-5
Children in grades 2-5 are invited to create their own Emoji Christmas Ornaments using paint, sharpies, and their artistic talents to make a fun ornament for a gift or to hang on the tree.
Children's Christmas Cookie Swap
Monday, December 18, 4:30 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: Grades K-5
Children in grades K-5 are invited to bring two dozen Christmas/Holiday cookies to swap with other participants! Each child will then go home with a plateful of yummy cookies! We will also do a cookie craft and enjoy some hot cocoa!
Glittery Handprint Ornaments
Tuesday, December 19, 10:30 a.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: Ages up to 5
Dazzle up the holidays! Children are invited to create precious keepsake ornaments. We will be using glue, glitter, hand prints, and tinsel to make sparkly ornaments - perfect to use as gifts or keep for yourself. Note: This will be a messy event! Please dress accordingly.
Stories and Snowballs
Thursday, December 21, 10:30 a.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: Ages 2-5
Welcome Winter! Join us as we celebrate the first day of winter by reading snowy stories and making "snow" all while inside the warm, cozy library. After we make snow, we will play with it. Children can make snowballs or use other utensils to explore the fun of snow. Note: This will be a messy event! Please dress accordingly.
Pow!Science! Alchemical Chemistry: Solids, Liquids, & Gasses
Wednesday, December 27, 2 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: Ages 5-9
Join our friends from Pow!Science! as we explore the Science of Matter (Chemistry). Pow!Science! is an educational toy store in Wakefield that specializes in eye-popping hands on experiments. Learn how atoms interact, explore the concept of volume and focus on the three basic states of matter on Earth: solids, liquids, and gasses. Students make and keep their own Amorphous Solid (aka SLIME) which has characteristics of both liquid and solid! Note: This will be a messy event! Please dress accordingly.
Animal Senses

Age Level: All Ages
Meet live snakes, turtles, frogs, and owls and investigate how they use their senses to survive in the wild. Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center of Mystic, Connecticut will bring an array of animals and demonstrate their unique senses.
Noon Year's Eve Party

Want to ring in the New Year, but don't want to keep the kids up? Celebrate the New Year at noon. We will make noise makers, dance, play games, eat, and party like it's 2018!
Adult Programs
Holiday Wreath Workshop
Saturday, December 2, 1 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
This annual program is best described as a good old fashioned wreath making gathering! Learn how to make a holiday wreath with the greens from your backyard. Please bring clippers and garden gloves. Wreath rings, decorations, and ribbon will be provided or you can bring special decorations and ribbon. There is no cost to this workshop.
Cookbook Club
Monday, December 4, 6 p.m., Harmony Library
The Harmony Library Cookbook Club’s December selection is Moosewood Restaurant Favorites: The 250 Most-Requested Naturally Delicious Recipes from One of America’s Best-Loved Restaurants by the Moosewood Collective. The Cookbook Club is a great way to sample new dishes without doing all the work! Choose a recipe to make and prepare it for the meeting. Everyone samples each other dishes and discuss the cooking experience. Fearless Art Group
Wednesday, December 6 and 13, 2 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
During the month of December, the group will explore and practice the art of drawing in ink. All levels of art experience are welcome. All materials will be provided.
Holiday Beeswax Candle Craft
Monday, December 11, 6 p.m., Harmony Library
Local artist and crafter Sue Walsh will be at the library to teach participants how to make different styles of beeswax candles with a holiday theme. All materials will be provided. This program is suitable for adults and older teens, ages 14 years old and up. Note: There is a $5 materials’ fee. Space is limited and advance registration is absolutely required.
Meditation for a Stress Free Holiday and Beyond

Dr. Alan Post, a chiropractic physician, will discuss the extraordinary effects of meditation. He will also present a simple, yet powerful meditation technique that will enrich one's life and help with seasonal stress.
Writers' Support Group

Read and share your personal projects at this monthly meeting. This adult group is open to writers in all genres. Note: Registration is not necessary for this group.
Crochet Group
Monday, December 18, 6:30 p.m., Harmony Library
Ashley Ledoux, an experienced crocheter, will be our group's leader. Ashley will teach beginners and will be available for assistance and advice for more experienced folk. She will bring a pattern for a holiday scarf for those who would like to tackle a specific project. Beginners will be provided with crochet hooks and yarn scraps to practice; however, if any beginners would like to bring theor own supplies they are welcome to do so. More experienced crocheters should bring their own materials. The library will provide a comfortable room for crochet and conversation!
Holiday Evergreen Centerpiece Workshop

Learn how to make a simple yet beautiful centerpiece for your holiday dinner table from greens gathered in your own backyard. Please bring garden clippers, work gloves, special decorations, and your holiday cheer! All materials will be provided. There is no cost to this workshop.
