Principal's Message
Greetings Summit View Families,
Our school building may be empty but our hearts are so full. Believe it or not, we have been teaching and learning from a distance for two months now. I am not sure how long something has to happen for it to feel ‘normal’ but seeing your student’s faces and hearing them on the computer has helped us all at Summit View feel OK through this change. This change is not one that will stay in the past but rather, will become a new way of doing things. We have yet to learn what this will look like in school but please find comfort in knowing that we are ready and will take care in making the necessary transitions so when your child(ren) is at school, you know they are safe and healthy. Summit View will remain a place of learning, creativity, and community.
This week we have been sharing our sincere gratitude to you, our families. After the PTO sponsored Teacher Appreciation Week, which warmed all of our hearts, we wanted to show that the feeling is mutual. Please take a moment to watch the video messages in the daily announcements this week. Thank you for all you have been doing to support your child(ren) at home during this time and before this time!
As a parent and/or guardian of a Summit View student, you are a member of the PTO. We have much of what you see inside and outside of our building and the experiences that you hear from your students because of the events that the PTO organizes throughout the year. The PTO however is much more than a fundraising organization. It is a network of families and staff that come together with the common mission to provide our students with the best school experience possible. Our PTO offers opportunities for parents and guardians to get involved through volunteering, committee work, event planning, etc. Please consider tuning in to this month's virtual PTO meeting on May 20 to listen in and get involved!
Last, but certainly not least, we are honoring a few very special staff members at the end of this year. Mrs. Mary Pizzala (Kindergarten Teacher), Mrs. Joyce Wilcox (Special Education Instructional Assistant), and Mrs. Terri Froiland (Instructional Coach) are retiring and leaving us with many memories. We are compiling memories in the form of cards, notes, drawings, gifts, and videos to share with these three. If you have something you’d like to drop off, please bring it by the front of school May 13- May 19. If you have a picture or video, you can send those to gsheskey@waukesha.k12.wi.us to be included in something special.
Regardless of where we are ‘doing’ school, we have some exciting end-of-the-year events coming up! Please continue to read through this newsletter for information on the student material pick-up (May 27), Fifth Grade Celebration (June 3), Yearbook Pick Up (June 4 & 5) and a virtual Summer School registration update!
Thank you again for your continued partnership. We will be back in our building soon. Until then, the Summit View spirit continues to bring us together!

Morning Announcements!
Library Books
Here is some helpful information as you get ready to return library books to school when you are picking up belongings from school in a few weeks.
- You will be sent a notice of all materials checked out to your student via email through our library system this week or next. You can also login to the library system to see your student's account. See the directions below.
- Any items left in classrooms will be returned to the library by the teachers as they organize student items.
- All library materials (including items returned from classrooms) will be checked in about a week after the pick-up days. Returned items will not be reflected in the student library account until that time.
- No fees will be charged. The notice may look like a fee only because the system automatically marks items as "lost" that have been overdue for a substantial amount of time. As items come in, that "fine" is deleted. These will all be corrected by next fall.
- If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Odau at jodau@waukesha.k12.wi.us
Here is the process for logging into student library accounts:
- Go to https://waukesha.follettdestiny.com/
- Click on your child's school. The school library home page will open.
- In the upper right corner of the library home page click on login.
The username is the beginning of the student email (example: sstudent001) The password is the student lunch code and safeword (example: 123456fun)
- Click on the MyInfo tab on the top left part of the page. You will see a list of books that the student has checked out.
