Principal's Weekly Communication -Week of September 14
Inspiration for the Week
School Improvement
To support optimal student achievement (academic and behavior) by utilizing a proactive systems approach for creating and maintaining a safe, respectful and responsible learning environment. We promote family and community involvement. The minutes can be found at this link:
MAP testing continues. We will be working in our upcoming PLC meetings on the purpose of testing, foundation of reports, and application for instruction. We will also learn about Goal Setting for your grade level and for individual students. Additionally, we will look at our school at a glance from last year's Fall to Spring MAP performance. There is a lot to celebrate!
Teaching Innovation
Words Their Way
I have given the Words their Way Assessment, now what?
Now that you know what stage your students are at in their spelling development, you can differentiate instruction based on their needs. One strategy you can implement is using word sorts. This can be done at guided reading or introduced whole group, then practiced at stations or the Daily 5 choice of “word work.”
And guess what!? The sorts are already made and organized by stage and lesson! In order for these to be more easily accessible, they have been moved to the following locations:
“letter name” & “within word” stages: downstairs workroom
“syllables and affixes” & “derivational relations” stages: upstairs work room.
There are sign-out sheets in each bin. If you would like any support in using these, Jenni would be more than happy to assist you!
