CALLING ALL DADS
Eagle Academy Charter School values and appreciates the contributions and support we receive from all of our amazing stakeholders. We would not be the school that we are without your support. We would like to send out a special invitation to our dads to come spend some time volunteering so that our boys can have more opportunities to see and interact with men in the school environment. We believe that your presence in the building will be of great benefit in helping to build character in our young men.
Below is a list of opportunities that we hope some of our dads will take advantage of. We are always open to your suggestions on how we can work together to create an environment that you feel comfortable spending time in.
- Greenhouse clean-up and repairs (Mrs. Timberlake)
- Storage Room Reorganization (front office)
- Replace hooks in classrooms (front office)
- Snow removal (anytime it snows. shovels are outside front entry)
- Playground duty (referee/coach soccer, dodgeball, flag football, etc.)(front office)
- Support in the classrooms (classroom teachers)
- Develop and manage an after-school club for our boys (Principal Carroll)
You can contact the front office, Mrs. Carroll, or any classroom teacher for more information on these and other dad-friendly volunteer opportunities. We hope to hear from you soon.

ALL SCHOOL HOLIDAY CONCERT
Date: Wednesday, December 18th
Time: 6:30 pm
Location: Community Covenant Church.
Students should wear holiday themed clothing, or bright Christmas colors, as you might wear to a party or to church. Dress pants or dresses/skirts are appropriate. Holiday sweaters are fine. Dress shoes are appropriate.
Students should arrive at the church by 6:10 pm on the 18th to prepare for our concert. The concert should last about one hour. You are welcome to invite family and friends to our performance.
We can use 2 parent volunteers per grade level. Please consider helping our students at the concert. Contact Mrs. Harple at the school if you can help. Thank you to the parents who have already volunteered.
School Wide Policy Change Consideration
The APB (Academic Policy Board) is considering a policy change regarding uniform shorts. The change would revise language found on page 20 of the Policies & Procedures Manual regarding uniform shorts to the following:
- Shorts of the styles specified in the clothing listing may be worn year-round.
A change in policy requires it to be put out as public notice to allow input from the school community. Input can be given by attending our next meeting and sharing during public comment or can be given by emailing an APB member and asking it to be shared at the next meeting.

December PTO Meeting
Our next monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 12th at 6pm in the staff lounge.
Attendance at meetings counts as volunteer time. See you there!
Last week one of our schools experienced a higher than normal rate of absence due to illness. While this appears to be isolated to a single school, please consider this a reminder that we are in the season of increased sickness.
This time of year, people who have become ill commonly feel some or all of these symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, and fatigue.
Let’s work together to keep our students, staff, and families healthy. Here’s a reminder of good habits that help prevent the spread of germs:
• Frequent washing of hands
• Not sharing drinks/food
• Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing (with the inside of elbow or tissue rather than hand)
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• Sanitize frequently used items (cell phone, steering wheel, door handles, keyboard, etc.)
If your child is feeling ill or showing any the above symptoms please consider keeping him/her home from school to avoid spreading germs to others.
We wish everyone a safe and happy week.

NAFTA Signed into Law
On December 8, 1993, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is signed into law by President Bill Clinton. Clinton said he hoped the agreement would encourage other nations to work toward a broader world-trade pact.
NAFTA, a trade pact between the United States, Canada, and Mexico, eliminated virtually all tariffs and trade restrictions between the three nations.
First Nobel Prizes is Awarded
On December 10, 1901, the first Nobel Prizes are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden, in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. The ceremony came on the fifth anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite and other high explosives. In his will, Nobel directed that the bulk of his vast fortune be placed in a fund in which the interest would be “annually distributed in the form of prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind.” Although Nobel offered no public reason for his creation of the prizes, it is widely believed that he did so out of moral regret over the increasingly lethal uses of his inventions in war.
UNICEF Founded
On December 11, 1946, in the aftermath of World War II, the General Assembly of the United Nations votes to establish the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), an organization to help provide relief and support to children living in countries devastated by the war.
After the food and medical crisis of the late 1940s passed, UNICEF continued its role as a relief organization for the children of troubled nations and during the 1970s grew into a vocal advocate of children’s rights.
Marconi sends first Atlantic Wireless Transmission
On December 12, 1901, Italian physicist and radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi succeeds in sending the first radio transmission across the Atlantic Ocean, disproving detractors who told him that the curvature of the earth would limit transmission to 200 miles or less. The message–simply the Morse-code signal for the letter “s”–traveled more than 2,000 miles from Poldhu in Cornwall, England, to Newfoundland, Canada.
