A Special Nutrition Note for Pre - K Parents Regarding New Meal Service Guidelines:
There are new guidelines that must be followed for the food service program for students age 5 in Head Start, Early Head Start, Pre-K and At-Risk After School Programs.
When will the new meal pattern guidelines take effect?
The new meal pattern goes into effect October 1, 2017. SFE recommends that the new meal pattern be implemented at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year to avoid confusing students with a mid-year change.
What age groups are affected by the new meal pattern guidelines?
Infants and children through age 5 in Head Start, Early Head Start, Pre-K and At-Risk After School Programs.
My district claims Pre-K meals under NSLP/SBP, do the new guidelines pertain to my district?
Yes, all Pre-K menus must meet these new guidelines regardless of how they are claimed.
What kinds of changes can my district expect to see?
- Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks for Pre-K will be Serve Only (students must take all components)
- Supper meals as part of the At-Risk Afterschool Program can be Offer vs. Serve
- Only one type of milk will be served (Unflavored)
- 100% juice can be served only once a day
- Grain-based desserts such as cereal bars, cookies and graham crackers cannot count towards the daily grain requirement
- Meat/Meat alternates may be used to meet the entire grains component up to three times/week at breakfast
- The guidelines include strict sugar limits on cereal and yogurt; some student favorites will no longer be offered.

Beginning in the fall of 2017, Telehealth services in Lancaster ISD will be billed to the patient’s insurance provider or to Medicaid. No coverage? No problem. After your Telehealth visit, we’ll bill you directly. Most families qualify for a discount and no student will be turned away for a visit.
