Principal's Message
Next week, we will celebrate our incredible Terra Linda volunteers. Without their help, we could not offer such a range of programs and activities for our students. Our volunteers coordinate a number of fundraising activities, such as the Jogathon, Plant Sale, Dining events, and book fairs. Funds raised support a number of school-wide activities, supplies for each of our teachers, and enrichment activities for our students, such as field trips. Volunteers also organize and run several community events such as the Fall Dance, Movie Night, Bingo Night, and STEAM Night. Volunteers join us on field trips, listen to students read, prepare classroom supplies during the Friday Work Party, and plan Classroom Parties. Our students experience a variety of art forms and learn about different artists from our Art Literacy volunteers, and they learn where different countries are located from our Passport volunteers. I cannot imagine Terra Linda without each of these activities and supports. Thank you for helping to make our school awesome!
If you haven’t yet signed up to be a volunteer, please click here and follow the volunteer registration steps.
All volunteers are invited to stop by Terra Linda next week, April 16 through April 20, and enjoy a treat in our office. Thank you for your service!
Kind Regards,
Christy
NEW: Changes to a Going Home Plan must be made prior to NOON on the day of the change
We need your help keeping your student safe at the end of the school day. As you know, student safety at school is our top priority. We make every effort to ensure students go home the way parents have specified (by bus, by car, walking, etc). However, we can no longer accept changes to your student’s Going Home Plan for the day after 12:00 NOON, except in emergencies. If your student’s Going Home plan needs to change, we must have this information prior to 12:00 NOON so that we can inform the student and teacher. We will implement this new plan on Monday, April 30.
Join us for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Night next Friday
All families are invited to participate in STEAM Night Friday, April 20 anytime between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. We will have a variety of fun activities that evening. Here are some examples:

Terra Linda Family Input Form for 2018-2019 Class Placements - Optional
Each year we offer an opportunity for families to provide us with input before we make decisions about class placements for the upcoming school year. While we do not take requests for specific teachers, parent/guardian input will be considered in the formation of classes. Teachers carefully consider a number of factors to create balanced classes, including gender, academic levels, second language needs, special education needs, talented and gifted needs, and behavior needs. Families will be notified of class placements prior to the Back to School Picnic in August. This form is due by 4:00 pm on Friday, May 4, 2018.
Spring 2018 Health Curriculum Review & Opt Out Notice
Each year, we offer families of 4th and 5th grade students an opportunity to review the Human Growth and Development Unit prior to student participation. Materials will be available in the Main Office from Monday, April 16 through Friday, May 4 for review. If you choose to opt your student out of a lesson on any specific topic, you must contact Christy Batsell by email or letter prior to Monday, May 7. We will then offer your student an alternative activity whenever the lesson(s) are presented.
Please take the BSD Annual Parent Survey
Please take a few moments to complete the BSD Annual Parent Survey during the month of April! The survey helps us to evaluate our progress in educating your student and planning for the future. Our goal is to ensure that every member of our school community feels welcomed, valued, and informed, so it is important for all parents/guardians to complete the survey. The survey data will be summarized so that each person who answers will remain anonymous.
A link to the 2018 Annual Parent Survey was sent to all valid parent/guardian email addresses via SchoolMessenger on Monday, April 2, 2018. The deadline to participate is Friday, April 20, 2018. You can view a copy of the survey in both English and Spanish on the Research & Reports webpage.
Local Option Levy Renewal
Please see this informational flyer and FAQ regarding our Local Option Levy. Ballots should arrive after April 25. Ballots must be received by May 15. The current Local Option Levy pays for 300 classroom teachers.
