Delran High School Broadcast

Message from Mr. Daniel Finkle
PARCC Parent Night - 2/28/17
All students will be taking the PARCC during the first week in April. The schedule is as follows:April 3 - Math Parts 1 and 2
April 4 - Math Part 3
April 5 - ELA Part 1
April 6 - ELA Parts 2 and 3
Makeup tests will take place beginning Monday, April 10th and ending on Thursday, April 13th.
NJ High School General Guidelines (Who Must Take PARCC?):
- All General Education and English Language Learners
- Students w/Disabilities must take PARCC except severely handicapped students who must take DLM as specified in their IEP (exempt from taking General Assessment)
- Special Education Exempt From Passing are required to take, but not pass, multiple, Math Assessments (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II) and multiple ELA/L Assessments (Grade 9, Grade 10, and Grade 11)
- Special Education Exempt From Passing are not required to pass PARCC or transitional graduation assessments, or to participate in the appeal process.
It is important for students to sit for the PARCC on many levels. As a parent, the information you receive from the results will enable you to help your child because the test will show your child's strengths and weaknesses. As a school, we use the data to determine where our curriculum is strong and where we need to spend some time revamping in order to meet the needs of our students. In addition, if you look at the DHS School Performance Report for last year, the results of the past year say that we are a "failing" school. As we all know, this is simply not the case. Our scores are not acceptable to the state because many parents are refusing to have their child sit for the test. Another reason is students who do take the test do not take it seriously because their peers are not testing. Unfortunately, outsiders do not know the specifics of our scores, they just make decisions on what they see.
Freshmen this year do not have a choice to refuse since it is now a graduation requirement for them to sit for the test. I implore you to support me in having your child sit for the test and to encourage them to do their very best.
On the days of testing, should your child not have either ELA9, 10 or 11, or Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II, there will be a delayed opening. The buses will run 2-hours later than the normal pick-up.
For a more detailed explanation about the test and our scores, we have prepared a PARCC Parent Night which will take place on Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the DHS Media Center. During this meeting, we will explain the entire process, address any concerns and answer questions. Please see the Delran Twp. PARCC Resource Page for detailed information.
