Testing for Practice and Much More
As a sophomore, you have the opportunity to take the following test, which are administered during the school day.
PSAT/NMSQT on October 10, 2018
PSAT 10 in Spring 2019
The PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 are the same test, and both serve as practice for the SAT, because they test the same skills and knowledge in alignment with your grade level. They each provide score reports that can be used to personalize Khan Academy SAT practice. These score reports also suggest which AP courses might be a good fit. For more information, visit collegeboard.com/psat.
PreACT testing date to be determined by the school
The PreACT simulates the ACT testing experience within a shorter test window on all four ACT test subjects: English, math, reading, and science. The new PreACT provides feedback that can help you select the right high school courses, devise strategies for improvement, and begin discussions about college and career possibilities. You also may choose to have your information shared with colleges and scholarship agencies when you take PreACT, which might lead to college recruitment and scholarship opportunities. For more information visit act.org/preact.
Contact your school counselor to inquire about fees and registering for these tests.
Crosby Scholars will be hosting a PSAT Webinar on October 2. You will need to register through the Crosby Scholars Student Portal in order to receive the webinar link and for more details about the event.
It's NOT Too Early to Start Speaking with College Reps!
The WS/FCS System, along with the Carolina Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (CACRAO), sponsors a college fair each fall called the Post-Secondary Opportunities Session (PSOS). Crosby Scholars are required to attend the college fair once as a sophomore, junior, or senior. Read more about the college fair/college visit requirement in your Crosby Scholars student portal.
Fulfill this requirement early! Attend the 2018 college fair on Monday, October 1, 2018, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Benton Convention Center in downtown, Winston-Salem AND submit your college fair form to verify your attendance. Look for the Crosby Scholars table as you enter and exit the fair! You are not required to stay for three hours; you will not need to pre-register to attend.
Approximately 125 colleges/universities are represented at this fair. Each college will have its own table, which will be placed in alphabetical order. To help scholars navigate the college fair, a list of colleges and their table number is provided by the WS/FCS system and is available upon entering the fair. Additionally, the list is posted on the Crosby Scholars Program website approximately one week prior to the fair. Parking is available in the parking deck for a fee. Several hundred students will attend this fair, so please allow extra time to enter and exit the parking deck. PSOS offers students the opportunity to interact with admission reps from North Carolina colleges as well as out-of-state schools.
Click here to view and print the sophomore college fair form. You can submit the form at the Crosby Scholars table prior to exiting the college fair.
