VARIETY SHOW - MARCH 14
The annual McKinley Variety show is just around the corner on Thursday, March 14. A Little Bit of Somethin' is an enduring McKinley tradition, celebrating the talents of the McKinley community while raising money for the Fine Arts department.
This year, we've decided to do something a little different.
From now on, 20% of all funds raised each year will be going to a special teacher-driven STEAM Fund. All McKinley teachers in every subject will have the opportunity to access this fund to help support their special classroom projects.
We are excited to share these resources as we transition into the McKinley STEAM Academy.
'
We need your help, and have several fun opportunities available! (see below)
If you have any questions about how to help with the fundraiser, please contact Variety Show coordinator, Sue Millar, directly at sue@millarwoodwindrepair.com or 319-363-0226 (w).
Thanks for helping to make this year's event a success!

2019 POLICE YOUTH ACADEMY
Registration is open for the 2019 Cedar Rapids Police Department Youth Academy. Students entering Kindergarten through 8th Grade have the opportunity to learn more about being a Police Officer and serving the community by participating in a Youth Academy at the Cedar Rapids Police Department, 505 1st Street SW.
Youth Academy participants will get a tour of the police station and learn about diverse areas within the Police Department including Uniforms, K-9 Unit, Special Response Team, Crime Scene Unit, Physical Training, and more.
The Academy will be held from 9:00 a.m. until Noon on the following dates:
- July 9th and 10th (For students entering 5th Grade through 8th Grade)
- July 23rd and 24th (For students entering 2nd Grade through 4th Grade)
- July 30th and 31st (For students entering Kindergarten through 1st Grade)
Early registration is recommended as class sizes are limited. The Academies were popular last year and most of them reached enrollment capacity during the first week of registration. Cost of the Academy is $25 and participants must have parental permission to participate. Students who have not previously attended a Youth Academy will be given first preference.
Please visit the Police Department’s website at www.cedar-rapids.org/police to download a registration form.
For more information on the Youth Academy, visit the Cedar Rapids Police Department’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cedarrapidspolicedepartment or call (319) 286-5434.

TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION
The McKinley PTA Hospitality Committee would like to show the McKinley staff that we appreciate all they for our students. This year we have been doing something every Friday to show our appreciation. If you’d like to participate, please sign up below to bring in something of your choice for the McKinley staff. Ideas would include bagels, cookies, chips and salsa, cut up veggies or it doesn't even need to be food. It could be handwritten notes from the kids or a poster board with some pictures of 'what's up' at McKinley. The internet has tons of great ideas… :)

Our positive acknowledgement system centers on the use of BEAR paws. Students can use BEAR paws for various incentives including pizza parties on Friday’s as well as purchasing items at the BEAR paw store.
