Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County
International Education Week
The 4th grade students were talking to Valeria in Italy to kick of International Education Week. Valeria was an exchange student that lived in Waukesha for 1 year. She attended Waukesha South High School while living here. Valeria presented information to the students about what life is like in Italy. She described schools, common foods, climate, and different cities. She also talked about what it was like being an Italian teenager living in America. Valeria shared how everything in the United States is bigger than in Italy, especially the automobiles. Students also asked Valeria questions they had about Italy. The students thought it was pretty awesome to be talking to someone all the way across the Atlantic Ocean and that here it was 10:30 am, and it was 5:30 in Italy!
Attendance Matters
Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school.
When students are absent for fewer days, their grades and reading skills often improve—even among those students who are struggling in school. Students who attend school regularly also feel more connected to their community, develop important social skills and friendships, and are significantly more likely to graduate from high school, setting them up for a strong future.
But when kids are absent for an average of just two days of school per month—even when the absences are excused– it can have a negative impact. These absences can affect kids as early as Kindergarten.
For example, young elementary school students who miss an average of just two school days per month often have difficulty keeping up with their peers academically and tend to fall behind in reading. But when students are able to read on grade level by the end of third grade, which is when kids transition from learning to read to reading to learn, they are three to four times more likely to graduate high school and attend college, post-graduate, or professional development classes than their peers who struggle with reading.
NOVEMBER PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CALENDAR
SHAPE America recommends school-age children accumulate at least 60 minutes and
up to several hours of physical activity per day. Each bout of physical activity should be
followed by cool-down stretches that help reduce soreness and avoid injury. Happy exercising!

130th Year Celebration
PBIS - The Big 3
Hadfield 4th graders composed a new school song to match Hadfield's new PBIS expectations "Be safe! Be kind! Be your best". During music class, students began by brainstorming ideas of what our school expectations look and sound in order to create the rhyming lyrics. They then chose to storyboard their ideas for a music video, develop their own choreography or practice to keep the steady beat with their rapping skills! All of their work culminated in creating a music video for the first PBIS assembly of the year held on Wednesday, October 18th. A huge thank you to Ms. Miller, our music teacher, and all of our 4th grade students for creating this awesome video.
