3RD GRADE CONCERT
DELAYED START REMINDER
Just a reminder that if we have a delay to the start of the school day, breakfast is not served. For an example, when the students arrive for a 10:00 am start, the kitchen staff is preparing lunch to be served in a little over an hour to our 3rd grade students. So, please remind your child/children that they should eat breakfast at home on delayed starts. Thank you.
GIRLS ON THE RUN
Grand Avenue’s Girls on the Run program will begin March 19. We still have room for more girls to join! We will practice Mondays and Thursdays after school. Girls on the Run is much more than a running program. While we work hard running, we also focus on setting goals, making good choices and gearing up to be the best we can be in running and in life. If your daughter is interested in joining, please go to www.girlsontherunscwi.org to learn more about it and sign up. You can also talk to Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Markley, Mrs. Luetscher, or Miss Sadie for more details.
IMMUNIZATIONS FOR CURRENT 5TH GRADE STUDENTS
Tdap requirements for 6th grade students next year-2018-19
The Wisconsin Student Immunization law requires that all students entering the 6th grade receive a dose of Tdap vaccine. To be compliant with the school law, parents must provide their child's school with proof of immunization or claim a waiver.
1. What is Tdap?
Tdap is a vaccine that protects against Tetanus, Diptheria, and Pertussis (whooping cough).
2. What grades are affected and what vaccine is required?
All students entering grades 6 through 12 must have one dose of Tdap.
CELEBRATING READ ACROSS AMERICA
LOST & FOUND
The pile of clothes stacking up from items that have been left outside during recess or forgotten in the lunchroom, outside the classroom, etc. is growing even larger. Please ask your child to stop by the lost and found table (outside the bathrooms by the gym) to check if they are missing any items. It really helps if we can keep this pile to a small mountain! Thanks for your help!
COUNSELOR CONNECTION
All grade levels will be discussing Personal Safety in March. The two main themes that get stressed are:
1. We all have the right to feel safe everywhere.
2. We can talk to a trusted adult about anything.
We will be discussing safety situations at home, at school, with friends and in the community. A safety network for all of these situations will be made and students will have a chance to apply what they know about keeping themselves safe. An age appropriate video will be shown in all classrooms that subtly depicts abuse situations, including a sexual abuse situation. A note will be sent home before the video is shown. If you would like to preview the video before it is shown, please contact me.

Ponder Parenting
· If you complain about politics, and gripe about taxes, and stew about the sorry state of things your children will learn to whine instead of laugh. If you can see in every moment a chance to live, and to accept, and to appreciate, your children will transform the world. (Martin, William; The Parent’s Tao Te Ching: A New Interpretation, 1999)
E-mail Miss Sadie if you have thoughts or questions about how to accomplish this task.

On days when school is closed, those employees who work when students are in attendance (teachers, aides, etc.) will not be expected to report. Twelve-month employees and administrators will be expected to report as soon as possible.
If a school is closed for reasons other than weather, the day may not be made up. If this is the case, that would be included in the announcement of the closing and teachers would possibly be asked to report to another school for the day. Examples of this type of closing might be by the health official or because of lack of heat or light in the school.

MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
For example, if your child suffers from migraine headaches, we will NOT be able to distribute medication to him/her without an AMA on file. The AMA form can be found on the District web site. In order for medications to be distributed, pills must be in a prescription bottle with proper labeling. Students may carry inhalers with them, however, an AMA form must be on file in the office.
If you have any questions regarding medication distribution, please contact Laura Cody, RN for the district at 643-5509.
