The OWL Newsletter
Otto Petersen Elementary School
Dear Families,
I hope everyone was able to find a moment to breathe and rest over Spring Break. I know many continued to work through the week, but I hope that you could take a step outside into the sunshine!
Quarter 3 concludes next week on Thursday, April 8th. Friday of next week is a non-student day as our teachers will be preparing Progress Reports and classroom configurations for the tentative reopening on Monday, April 12th.
A district survey went out today and will be open until Thursday, April 1st at 4:00 pm. This survey will be to determine your child's academic model for the remainder of the school year. Please fill out a survey for every K-12 child in your home! The ability for us to bring all students opting to come back into the building is dependent on staffing and numbers, so your input and participation in the survey is incredibly important. Please complete the survey before Thursday, 4/1 at 4:00 pm!
OPE will be sending out information regarding the opening plans for in-person instruction and continued Comprehensive Distance Learning. Many components will remain the same, such as mask requirements, social distancing, and increased health and safety protocol. As communicated in Dr. Porter's letter sent out at the beginning of the week, distancing requirements have changed in order to support more students within a single classroom space. This is great in the sense that we will be able to have more kids in the building during the school day; it does mean that there will be more transitions and changes, though.
Once class structures are determined and transportation needs have been indicated, we will be disseminating this information to families as soon as possible. Again, please be sure to complete the district survey for every child so we can appropriately assess the needs of our families and students.
Respectfully,
Jenneca Crocker

OPE Welcomes Jason Hiller, Librarian!
Dear Otto Petersen Families,
As the new librarian for the Scappoose School District, I am thrilled to help our Otto Petersen students develop a love of reading in our stunning library. We are working on getting some exciting activities planned for the future.
Students in grades 4-6, though unable to currently visit our library, will be able to continue using our online checkout system to receive books. Students will have to search through the school’s online library catalog and select a book. After that, they can either request books through their teacher or email me directly with their name, the whole book title, and their teacher’s name.
The books will be available for pick up in front of the library in sterilized teacher bins. The online library catalog is open to all students continually throughout the day, and students should be encouraged to explore it.
My goal is to provide a vital combination of resources, curriculum, activities, and professional expertise that help students acquire information and the skills and judgment to make good use of that information. Most importantly, I strive to make learning and reading fun and am looking forward to working with your students.
Thank you!
Jason Hiller
